Adam cap Super Guru, how much cap money left after signing Hamlin

it seems like possibly the cowboys are loading up with extra cap money for possibly getting roy williams wr or bouldin if they can work out a trade

im no cap expert and maybe adam can fill us in, but if we added say 2 million with the deal for hamlin that would put us up about 10 million;

then resigning canty probably will save some too, so seems like the cowboys are loading up for something big;

and dont forget the cowboys maybe looking at chris simms when he becomes available too;

im beginning to think, with the extra compensatin picks we have for reeves, jones, julius jones, and trade that nets us 6th rounder from miami, of couse we lose our 6th this year for the adam jones final trade

seems like the cowboys maybe getting ready to trade a low round draft pick to tampa bay to get simms

that would still leave lots of money left if we did save 2 million in hamlin deal, to have some money left over, redo cantys contract, to go get a big time player in a trade besides simms

The 30% rule seems kind of feckless to me. Or maybe I'm just not understanding it. So the following structure is ok?

2008: 2 million
2009: 2 million
2010: 6 million
2011: 7.8 million (6+30%)
2012: 10.14 million (7.8+30%)
2013: 13.182 million (10.14+30%)
2014: 17.1366 million (13.182+30%)

That's an almost 60 million contract with 7 year contract with only 6% of the money being paid in the first 30% of the contract.

I get the point of the rule, but it would have more effect if it was a 10% cap or 15% cap. At 30%, it seems to me the cap is kind of feckless.

I think the cap number can't increase 30% starting in 2010. So the 4mil jump from 2009 - 2010 wouldn't fly.

The 30 Percent Rule applies to the 2010 season and beyond

Here's Hamlin's 1st year cap according to Archer:

Sorry the delay in getting more information to he blog, but I had to make some phone calls to the parties involved to find out what was going on. We'll have more from Hamlin in a little bit.

Hamlin signed (key word) the deal around 1:30 p.m. Anyway, Hamlin's cap number this year is now $2.105 million, which saves them roughly $2.3 million against this year's cap. With the franchise tag, he was counting $4.396 million.

So as it stands, the Cowboys have more than $10 million in cap room but have to sign their six draft picks. They have plenty of room to do whatever they want this year, either signing DeMarcus Ware or Chris Canty (or both) to deals, but the problem is the future structure of contracts with the change in when the 30 percent rule takes place.

Hamlin's 6yr 39mil 15mil SB deal could look like this:

2008 2.00
2009 5.00
2010 6.00
2011 7.40
2012 8.50
2013 10.00

But I'd guess:

2008 3.50
2009 5.50
2010 6.50
2011 7.00
2012 7.50
2013 9.00

Glad to see this done. I am also glad it turned out to lower the cap hit like expected.
