From ESPN INSIDER....WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY Vinatieri market taking shapeMar. 13 With Vinatieri likely to command between $2.5 million and $3 million per year, only three teams -- Dallas, Green Bay and New England -- are in a position to pursue the free-agent place-kicker, according to the Boston Herald. "They're basically a love triangle right now, and they've all got something going for them," said an agent representing a free agent kicker not named Vinatieri. "The best cap situation is Green Bay. The best personal situation would be New England. And the best kicking conditions are in Dallas." The Herald previously reported that Vinatieri could have a new home by today. But Ryan Longwell's five-year, $10 million deal with the Vikings established the going rate for kickers and forced Vinatieri to re-examine his options.

I wouldn't over spend on any kicker but the Cowboys sat on the Longwell situation and got burnt.

I would not give Longwell that much personally and I am glad Dallas didnt.

I dont understand some of you guys and not wanting to over spend on a kicker. PLease explain to me how is a kicker not worthy of 2.5 - 3 mill a year?

Sure the regular old joe kicker isnt worth that much, but we're not talking about an average kicker we're talking about the most successfull Kicker in the History.

My question is, How much is a playoff birth or a Super Bowl worth to us? He would have put us atleast in the playoffs last year, and if that costs us 3 mill, then so be it.

This is the part that frustrates me. If we don't sign a Vinatieri type, every time our kicker misses a critical field goal next year -- and if we sign some retread, you know it's bound to happen with some regularity -- we're all going to sigh and say, "We could have had Vinatieri."

It's just one of those things that you KNOW will come back to haunt us.

He makes the kick in Seattle, we win

He would have made the kick against Denver, we win.

We then are in the playoffs and Jerry makes up his 3 million easily.

for as clutch as Adam V is, Vanderjagt is easily one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history. Why is he not getting the $$$ or the attention that Longwell and Vinatieri are? I would be more than happy w/ Vandy in Big D!
