It seems like all I do is write posts regarding the WRs, but I've got another one. This is adjusted stats for the WRs which is a good way of taking consistency into account. It takes the best game a WR had last year and subtracts it from the overall stats and then takes the worst game and multiplies it by two before adding it to the new stats. The thinking behind this is that you can weed out games that aren't true indications of how a player generally performs. The biggest example of this, which won't be shown in this post, is Sidney Rice having 10 TDs on the season, but 5 of them in one game. The adjusted stats show a difference of 6.4% in Rice's percentage of TD catches, a drop from a decent 13% to right around a very low 7%. We're trying to limit statistical aberrations with this. The numbers were then ranked 1 through 5 with the lowest being awarded 0 points and highest score being awarded 4 points (similar to a standard GPA scale). The points are then all added up for an overall rating.
1. Calvin Johsnon - Score: 29
71 catches 1034 yards 13 TDs 14.6 YPC 18.3% TD Rate
2. Robert Meachem - Score: 26
71 catches 1183 yards 9 TDs 16 YPC 12.2% TD Rate
3. Dwayne Bowe - Score: 23
74 catches 979 yards 9 TDs 13.8 YPC 12.7% TD Rate
4. Dwayne Jarrett - Score: 22
61 catches 820 yards 10 TDs 13.4 YPC 16.4% TD Rate
5. Ted Ginn Jr - Score: 11
59 catches 688 yards 7 TDs 11.7 YPC 11.9% TD Rate
Now these aren't the highest 5 scoring WRs, but instead it's the general consensus first 5 WRs who will be taken. It's interesting to see how much lower Ginn scores than the other WRs but I think it shows what a lot of people already believe, that he doesn't have what it takes to be a #1 WR in the league. Granted this isn't the only thing that should be considered when judging the WRs, it's really just a modified production rating and should be used in conjunction with speed and agility times.
