Adrian Peterson signs with the Titans. He’s a long way from Emmitt but he could catch Barry this year. Tennessee seems like it could have been a good spot for Frank Gore given the strategy of signing an old running back. Does this mean Gore is done? If so, Emmitt’s record has got to be safe for a long, long time.

What are the chances of AP getting it now that he's signed?

Well, you got 17 regular season games now and Henry is on pace for another 2000 yard season…
Henry is also done for either majority of the remaining season or all of the rest of it too.

With todays NFL pass happy offenses and the way franchises use running backs in those offenses, Emmitt Smith's record is safe......

Frank Gore is pursuing a boxing career.

You think the Titans are going to feed a 36 year-old RB >10 times a game?

He's a placeholder - he'll be lucky to pass Sanders.

If Gore is pretty much done since he is pursuing boxing now, though I have not seen where he may have officially retired.
And AP has a way to go. He may get what, 600 or 700 yards tops this year. If he gets a lot of carries.

I can’t see him playing long enough to even get remotely close.

so the closest RB”s are Mark Ingram, Zeke, Henry and Bell needing like 10,000 yards.

I truly believe now OJ and Emmitt's records are secure for eternity. There is never going to be another durable back like that in the future that shoulders those loads yearly or perennially. Guys like Gore and Curtis Martin were the last standards for doing something like that. AP hit a wall and is trying to stretch it out but its done.

AD needs another 3,535 yards to catch up with Emmitt Smith. That thread title sounds good but Peterson is no real threat to catching Emmitt.
