Advanced analytics say we should not be worried about the Eagles D, but I still am

Eagles have been the second worst defense in the league since week 4.

They're the 4th worst defense via EPA. (Commanders, Cardinals and Broncos are the only teams who are worse per EPA).

21st defense ranked DVOA.

They have given up the 9th most points in the league.

Their defense as a whole has given up 27 touchdowns and only has 6 interceptions (Which is a funny coincidence, Dak's stat line for the year is 26 TDs to 6 interceptions)

3rd Most passing yards given up. This one stick out because it isn't like they are blowing teams out and they're accumulating garbage yards. It is happening within the flow of the game.

This is a game the Cowboys SHOULD win, our defense just needs to play average and we should.

Over the last five games, the Eagles have allowed over 1,500 passing yards and 15 passing touchdowns for the first time in franchise history in a five-game span. The average opposing QB during that stretch has gone 28-for-43 for 306 yards with half an interception and a 103.9 passer rating.

Over the last five games, they’re last in total defense, 25th in run defense and last in pass defense.
They’ve allowed 2,175 yards the last five games – the 3rd-most yards they’ve ever allowed in franchise history in a five-game span.

The 9ers scored 6 TDs on 6 consecutive drives, the last team to do that to the Eagles you ask? The 1966 Dallas Cowboys at the Cotton Bowl. :flagwave:

Don’t care a bit about stats in division games, especially ones against teams that are our equal or better.

I expect a dogfight and a one point win will be good enough for me.

Looking at Pythagorean projections...the Cowboys "should" finish with 12 or 13 wins (12.86 wins). On paper that looks like Eagles, Lions, Commanders (road) and a possible split with Buffalo/Miami (road). Can they win the division at 13 - 4, assuming a split with the AFC East (Buffalo is likely the best chance)? Cutting it close and needing the Eagles to drop another game (against Seattle is the best chance).

Hard to see Dallas winning out. Brutal schedule over the next four games. They would need that Eagles kind of luck to pull it off. They have definitely overperformed the projections (9.6 wins).

1. You just have to smartly manage Steele's matchup on passing downs.
2. Obviously limit or no turnovers

Everything else should take care of itself.

In hindsight and pretty strongly thought at the time, Steele lost that game for Dallas. I hope that McCarthy makes sure that doesn't happen again. If given time, Dak is going to tear the Eagles secondary up.

Now, my concern right now for the final 5 is this, all those teams will focus upon really running the ball and mix in long explosive pass plays for success.

Mix that in will team killing penalties and a fall back in the Red Zone.

They will attempt to allow the Cowboys self destruct and push the run game to eat clock and a mild game control for momentum and rhythm.

No stepping out at the one by Dak and missing a win, this time against Philadelphia.

Start executing at a high level with your passing game Dak. Control games now! This off time prepared you, now do it!

we should win, but the eagles and their coaches are masters of keeping games close, and they have learned to make plays when needed and convert to scores. however, the niners kept that in check.

their defense has been over rated all year. they have been leaning on their offense and their ability to make critical plays offensively and defensively and pull games out in the end. at some point, it evens out and you start to lose a few.

the way niners did it, is not necessarily pressure Hurts, but niners played disciplined football upfront defensively, forced Hurts to stay in the pocket by taking away his running lanes as he often does and forced him to pass from the pocket where he struggles. that also suffocated their running game, made them one dimensional and they struggled to stay close. that strategy hurt them in the redzone where they scored field goals instead of TDs.

for us to beat them, we have to employ the same defensive strategy, just play disciplined football in rush defense and sacrifice sacks, force them into passing situations and force Hurts to play in the pocket. offensively, we just have to do what we did before. attack them in air, make sure we run enough to keep them honest and for Gawd's say give Steele some help in pass protection, sacrificing WRs being in route for pass protection

Help Steele at RT with Schoon or Ferg. Move Dak around on rollouts and RPOs. Run right at their passrushers and wear them down.

There are massive mismatches to exploit in the secondary— IF Dak is given time.

And please— for once— block Brandon Graham and keep that old man from making a play against us lol

Its our Oline we should be worried about, hope they play more 2TE sets, help out our RT.
This,,, specifically center and right tackle, our O-line hasn't been able to get a running game going even against teams with crappy run defenses. Pass protection has improved slightly but offensive success still involves Dak scrambling and extending plays, a low percentage game plan. The Eagles live and die by the quality of their play in the trenches and that's why they beat the Cowboys lately along with most other teams, it's a high percentage game plan and they built quality lines. Thankfully Dak has been playing lights out along with CeeDee but that playing style can fail, they could just have a bad day, bad luck or the weather could derail the passing game. So by all means give that RT some help, scheme up something that hides that weak link center, and show us that there's a plan to get this run game going and fix their redzone woes.
