Football Outsiders Rankings of the Cowboys through Week 2

Note: These do not have opponent adjustments as of yet. So if Kansas City ends up being a bottom of the barrel Run D as the season goes on, our performance in Week 2 on the ground will look even worse. If they turn out to be a great defense, then the performance will look better in time. They do have scoring and scenario adjustments, so an 80 yard touchdown drive is a lot more impressive to their system than a drive that starts in the opponent's red zone following a turnover.

Offensive Ranking:
Overall 25th (-14.9% VOA)
Passing Offense 22nd (4.6% VOA)
Rushing Offense 28th (-33.8% VOA)

Defensive Ranking:
Overall 17th (2.2% VOA)
Passing Defense 20th (18.8% VOA)
Rushing Defense 5th (-34.2% VOA)

Special Teams: 3rd, 8.4% ST VOA - No units below league average and best FG/XP in the league

Have at it...

Major sample size issues, but it doesn't seem too unreasonable. Special teams Dez Church and Hatcher have been really welcome developments.

The run defense is at least a positive. But if Alex Smith hurt the Cowboys on QB scrambles, I'm scared to think of what Vick, RG3, and Terrelle Pryor might do this season.
