After coaching changes and free agency, are you optimistic about 2025

I voted yes, but here let me add an asterisk.

I am "more" optimistic than I was about last year, which really isn't saying much. The Cowboys set themselves up to fail last season. At least things are not status quo on the coaching staff anymore. And while not many fans care about the moves they made in free agency....at least they TRIED.

A solid draft might even convince me. Get a true number two receiver, a true number one back, and a corner that can play and let's roll with it.

Am I skipping down the yellow brick road singing If Booger Only Had A Break happy?
No.

Am I cautiously wandering around in the Twilight Zone expecting the worst?
No.

I'm somewhere in between like Toy Story and Booger gets to Buzz Lightyear taking the Cowboys to infinity and beyond

Defense is in worst shape
That's what I was going to say!!!!!

Our D was 28th last year, 29th vs the run. Now, if Booger suddenly grows a brain and goes DT high in this draft, then yes, we might do something. However, if it's more WRs and RBs and TEs and Cbs, then it's back to the same ol' same ol'.

The OL played better as the season went on and after Martin went out. So I am cautiously optimistic that there will be better line play. I think the two RBs we signed will at least be similar to what Dowdle did, but I feel confident we will draft a RB that will be better than what we had. TE will be the same and right now hard to say if WR will be any better. At this point would have to say worse since Cooks is gone. QB will be better with the return of Prescott, but not sure how much overall that will be. Rush played pretty well. Overall, I think the offense will be about the same.

On defense, we are missing a lot of guys from last year due to free agency and injury. Can't really count on Diggs or Overshown to start the year, and we lost Lawrence and Gholston and Lawson. We get back Sam Williams and added the two pass rushers so more or less a wash. We added a couple LBs, I don't know if they will be any better than what we got from Kendricks last year. Liufau stepped up when Overshown went down so overall I am saying they are about the same. Same safety group so pretty much expect the same from them. Corners, we lost Lewis and Diggs is a question mark. We added Elam but to date he can not replace either of the guys we lost. Of course, to finish last season we had lost Diggs and had a different replacement for him every week and we were without Bland a good part of the year. Again, more of a feel of same talent level.

Overall, we weren't a very good team. We weren't horrible...we could pretty much beat all the bad teams. We just couldn't really beat any good teams. This year is expected to be more of the same. Just good enough to miss out on a premium draft pick next year, just bad enough to miss the playoffs.

I don't know that the coaching change and scheme changes will make a ton of difference. We have to somehow improve the run defense. I think the spots where we could make the most improvement rapidly would be corner, DT, RB and WR. I would normally say LB but this isn't a great LB class. I think to max out the improvement it probably means first two picks should be WR and CB, with DT and RB next because there is good depth there.

If we hit on the draft...maybe we get a wild card spot. I don't see us advancing past the a wild card game even under best case.

Gary is the master of using analogies. Nobody is close to this man

You almost had me,

most of that stuff you said was true except for that we weren't going to be good enough to make the playoffs,

and I don't believe that if healthy just think about all the things you said we get those guys back we have a good draft and they still have tons of money left and more when they sign Parsons they're going to make a move possibly, we don't know what's going to happen, yet..

you're way too early on saying that "more of the same"
I don't think so, we were missing about 18 players at some point during the season not at the same time, but some position groups were absolutely destroyed, when you don't have any of your starting or your second or your third string pass rushers, corners,LB, in a new defense and that's just part of it.
then you lose your quarterback and lamb gets hurt Martin, chuma, richards, goes out..
you're shuffling and you also have a coaching staff this is the big kicker that didn't start doing the things they should've been done by throwing out the kitchen sink by forgetting that Rico was on the team until after like week 9 or 10 same thing with Turpin not utilizing the players properly and changing the scheme as you lost players it was almost a lost cause too many players went out and their backups went out ..
if you don't have that same catastrophe this team this core part of this team is still good enough especially with the new coaching staff that I believe in more as we're talking about in this thread I have to put it in there I believe they'll get more out of this team then Mike McCarthy and his staff I'm not sure if it was a lame duck or whatever the injuries but he did it two years in a row with the late starts the confusing use of rotations between Pollard and Rico and not utilizing Turpin and hunter we didn't even really need to bring back zeke if he knew how to use some of these bigger players how Kellen more used to use the lineman in short yardage Mike was just clueless I like him solid head coach but as an OC not good at all he only started doing creative things when it was desperate to do so should've been doing it from game one..

So while I'm cautiously optimistic about this new coaching staff ,

I believe they're going to be better and if we don't have all the losses to major areas of the team in bunches we could win 10 games this year, easily, in my opinion. Just kidding the run game even just improved with a better rotation of runners and having a clue with the offensive line is gonna improve this team big time and we're not even done yet in this offseason the drafts not even here yet..

We won seven games last year with a patch together team mostly a backups we beat nearly swept Washington with backups I mean literally a practice squad team in the second game and they needed Marcus Mariota to save the game and then we were that weird special teams play away from winning was it the Cincinnati game the ball bounce weird he touched it I think we win that game we're on the streak we might have got in with 9 games...

So think about it packed together team tons of injuries bad coaching and we could have won nine games last year how we got 7 games I don't know but being 12th picking in the draft if we even have half of the negative things don't happen this year we can win 10 games no problem everybody thinks that Washington's going to dominate and we're going to stay where we were last year and I don't see that some of those names they added this year like Samuels and Gallup are reaches these guys are on the decline and they're not that good the name on the back of the jersey and they swapped out one of their best interior defensive lineman for a guy that makes about the same amount of money and about the same talent level that's a parallel move that does not make them better they struggle to beat our practice squad last year..
I'm not saying they're going to be bad but think about this all them times guys like The Jets with Mark Sanchez and Bortles with the Jags had that one good year we didn't even say to the New York Giants did they went to the playoffs but then they regressed I don't see Washington being that much better than us when healthy and when coached properly they're not that big a threat and we've handled the eagles on a split that Prescott is 33 and eight in the east and that's not going to change that much because he got hurt...IMHO

Would you rather make the playoffs for the next two years or be in a super bowl in 4 years?

Yes, that is basically what it comes down to.
