After missing on Jamal Adams, Cowboys should look within for possible safety upgrade

How do you know he has a way to go before he is a starter caliber player? Or a difference maker?

I'm sure there were people who thought the same thing about Dak. Point is you never know what you have until you let them get some real playing time.

Miles Austin.
Taco Charlton.
Dan Bailey.
Dak Prescott.
Jason Hatcher.
And those are just Cowboy players. If given a chance he could indeed surprise.--JK

Coaches have to make that call. I'm not saying the coaches are incapable of getting it wrong, but at the same time, not everyone that hasn't had the chance to play is worthy of that chance, or ready immediately for that chance. The answer isn't always just to throw someone in the mix.

He is at least as good as Heath, but even had we taken him, he wouldn't be starting. Personally, I think Wilson has just as much upside and would like to see him get some playing time. Heath is what he is. Wilson can hit and has good ball skills.

I agree, but he could end up better than both. I just want him to get in a few plays a game to get experience. Then next year let him complete against Heath and Woods to start or split time with them. The young man has some skills but is very raw.

Word now coming from Albert Brees (who I trust) that the Cowboys final offer to the Jets included a backup level player.

Cowboys had the opportunity to take a really good safety in Juan Thornhill who was available when Cowboys picked Trysten Hill. Thornhill has started all 8 games at S for the Chiefs, has a pick, 30 tackles, and has been on the field for over 90% of the chiefs defensive snaps. Taylor Rapp is another S who was available when Hill was picked who is doing well with rams. Last week he had 9 tackles and 2 passes defended.

Trysten Hill so far is an even bigger bust than Gavin “Pablo” Escobar. At least Escobar suited up and played some snaps every game. He sucked but at least he was able to prove how bad he was in a real game, lol. Apparently our coaches think Hill sucks so bad he can’t be allowed to take a few snaps.

To be fair, I guess it’s too early to declare a rookie a bust after half a season. But let’s just say the fat lady at the opera is warming up.

Thornhill is a FS/CB type player.

Jamal Adams is a true Strong Safety.

The Cowboys wanted Adams to stop the run but also be able to cover.

If the Cowboys wanted Thornhill, they would have just kept Byron Jones at Safety.

Taylor Rapp is playing a hybrid LB/Safety role in the games I watched (Falcons, Bengals).

His role in the Bengals game was to stop the run and cover the TE.
- TE Eifert had his best game of the season.
- The Bengals had their 2nd highest total yardage and rushing yardage of the season.
- TE C.J. Uzomah as a blocker ate Rapp's lunch.
