Which players will, without the slightest doubt, make it onto the final roster (or worst, placed on injured reserve or the practice squad)? In other words, which players have zero (nada, zlitch) probability of being cut prior to the regular season? There's Romo, Witten, Owens, Glenn, Roy Williams, Newman, Ware..? Who else?

there is about 30 guys who are untouchable pretty much unless they just tank.

I mean Brad Johnson is even pretty much untouchable.

Johnson's a probable lock, but he was brought in as a veteran backup. That should be enough to solidify him on the final roster, imo.

OFFENSE:

QB: Romo, johnson
RB: Jones, Barber
FB: Noone
WR: Owens, Glenn, Crayton
TE: Witten, Fasano
OT: Adams, Columbo, Marten, Free
OG: Davis, Kosier, McQuistan
C: Gurode
Total: 17

It looks like the offesne is pretty much set. Outside of fullback we know who our starters are going to be. The lion's share of the Oline is pretty much set barring injury. There will be competition for bacups at WR, TE, RB, and OC.

I wouldve included Stanback here esp with Irelands comments but he might go on the PUP. If he is healthy he is a lock though.

I was uncertain that McQuistan should go on there but after thought I think he is a keeper. Parcells made gaffes concerning drafted linemen but once he got them i dont recall him playing them. Pettiti stuck around because we had no choice and Rogers and Peterman were never forced into action. the fact that he started McQuistan in the preseason and had him active for the playoff game tells me the guy can play.

DEFENSE

DE: Spears, Canty, Hatcher
DT: Ferguson
OLB: Ware, Spencer, Ellis
ILB: Carpenter, Ayodele, James
CB: Newman, Henry, Glenn
S: Williams, Hamlin, Watkins
Total: 16

I wanted to include Brown amongst the corners however a 7th rounder is a 7th rounder. Keith Davis is almost a lock but if Elam comes on and we go with only 4 safeties he could be cut.

Burnett has been here a good amount of time and he really doesnt make too many plays. He is certainly expendable.

Ratliff is on the cusp of being a lock as well. The man makes plays.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Kicker; Noone
Punter: McBriar
Long Snapper: Frenchy
Total: 3

Ireland was a kicker so he may very well see something in Folk that will put him over the 80% mark in accuracy and Grammatica is cut. He could also flop and get cut himself. It is also probable that we keep him as a KO specialist and the Venezuelan placekick.

Frenchy is reliable as far i can see and noone is close to supplanting him.

Grand Total: 36

That leaves a lot fo spots up for grabs. Our starting lineup is pretty well set but the competition will be fierce for the second team.

With Stanback, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him go on the PUP list. Hope I'm wrong, but after reading Stanback's own view of how far along he is at this point, it didn't exactly instill a great deal of optimism in me for his chances this year. Plus, the fact that when he is ready to play, he's going to be green as grass at the WR spot.

I'd hardy call Crayton an untouchable. Sure he's had his moments, but he's disappeared far too much for long stretches and he contributes absolutely nothing as a punt returner. If Austin or Hurd shows anything during preseason, I wouldn't be shocked to see Crayton traded for a second day pick to someone desperate for a WR.

According to Ireland he'll probably be able to participate in this weekend's minicamp and there's no way he won't be ready for July.

This is certainly a new popular trend amongst the boards as of late. Now that Jones looks to be staying, many are looking to trade Crayton. hes the Coakley du jour.

I dont see any substantiation to this. Jones has specifically mentioned Crayton and it makes little sense to replace a competent 3rd WR with an unproven player. The man has made some huge clutch plays for us over the years.

I make my lists based on what i believe the Cowboys will do not on what i would want them to do.

I am hoping that he is ready to play as well, however even Stanback himself has stated hes only 85% of the way back. Its one thing to go through a run through of how Phillips will run his practices as well as the fundamentals of Garrett's offense to being able to go full bore in twoadays or a preseason game much less a regular season contest.

i think the outlook is definitely good but Im not getting my hopes up quiet yet with him just having taken his cast off.
