The Aikman ratings are backwards.

We are only averaging not quite 60 pts per 1000 yards of offense. That's 20 less than we should be getting.

And our scoring defense is number three in the league. And we've held top offensive teams to a good bit less than their average.

Why am I not surprised.
If you knew anything about it, you'd say it was garbage as well.

It places entirely too much emphasis on certain statistics, which creates too many abnormal results. I've long wanted to conduct a correlation study between his formula and others, but I'm too lazy.

I've always respected Troy Aikman, the football player.

Him winning 3 Super Bowls has no bearing on what I think of him as an analyst.

Apples and oranges.

Exactry.

That's odd.

I see scoring defense 3rd, scoring offense 13th.

Anyone else on Earth besides Troy's formula think we have a below average defense?

Well, Football Outsiders' stats have us 4th on offense, 15th on defense, so they're very similar. However, their weighted rankings (which deemphasize games early in the season) have our defense 8th.

Similarly, they have NO ahead of us for the whole year, but way behind in the weighted stats.

One of the big reasons our defense doesn't rank higher in these analyses is that we simply don't generate takeaways. Yeah, we don't allow many points, but our defense very rarely puts our offense in good field position (we're among the league's worst in starting field position). Which is one of the reasons we get fewer points on offense than our yards would suggest.

Yeah, but a big part of the reason we generate fewer points/yards than we should is that we're at the bottom of the league in starting field position. Why? Because our defense (a) gives up a fair number of yards and (b) doesn't get takeaways.

And a big part of the reason our defense is so good in the points/yards stat is that the offense (a) generates a lot of yards, moving field position in our favor, and (b) doesn't turn the ball over. We're at the top of the league in opponent's starting field position.

It's not as simple as just looking at points scored and allowed. Turnovers and field position have a big effect on those numbers and you can't ignore those when evaluating our offense or defense.

Poor acheman. His Giants aren't fairing too well.

the disrespect makes me sick to the core of my stomach, I only saw the 1999 season with Aikman playing live with the ability to remember what he accomplished and I would take a bullet for him, multiple times. He won us not one Superbowl, but multiple ones, a real fan would understand that and would worship Aikman on the level of a deity.

I usually like your posts, but that one has forced me into a predicament where I have no choice but to abandon all respect for you.

Aikman > Life, if he says we should all jump off bridges, we should all jump off bridges, if he says we should all give our money to homeless people in mexico, we should give our money to homeless people in mexico.

As such I believe removing helmets from NFL Football may be beneficial, people are careless they say I got my helmet im good, I wont get hurt. Minus the helmet you add accountability and add people trying to protect themselves, you think I say this but wouldn't practice it myself? If my High School (magically) decides to not use helmets next year it would not change my ability to QB my team.

Aikman is a hero.

You should also mention that except for the top 2 or 3 defenses (and especially the Jets defense) all the defenses around the league are very close to each other, so the difference between the #4 defense and the #15 isn't very much.
