I finally watched some footage of Akiem Hicks.

I'm impressed. He has very good athleticism for a 6-5, 318 pound man. He carries the weight well. His burst off the line is impressive. Check out 2:30 in the 1st video.

As you would expect, he tosses those Canadian football OLinemen around with ease. He appears to have a very good motor and plays with an attitude. Seems like the ideal developmental 5-technique.

Looks like late round steel to me.

SDogo in his last thread said there were red flags both on and off the field with him.

He's got the raw tools.

He's got a good attitude.

He's shown a passion for the game.

I'd be happy drafting him anywhere from the 5th round on.

I would add that if we draft him we must commit not to put him on the PS. The idea would be to be prepared for redshirt year for this guy and then see if we can get something out of him in 2013. Maybe he surprises but I doubt it given how raw he probably is.

The first four rounds must not be projects anymore. They should be guys who can play right now. We have too many holes and too little depth to be playing games like that.

Hicks is similar in length to Brockers. Except he is a better pass rusher and has better agility and lateral ability IMO.

There is another similar player, Randy Colling of tiny Gannon. Lower level of competition, similar length but more productive.

Brockers and Hicks numbers are shockingly similar.

Hicks' numbers are first and then Brockers:

40 5.23 vs. 5.36
ss 4.81 vs. 4.86
3c 7.75 vs. 7.46
vert 31.5 vs 26
broadJ 9-0 vs 8-9

The big difference is Brockers is a unanimous first rounder and Hicks is 5-7th round most likely.

I'd be fine with picking Hicks late but we have to be prepared to red shirt him and not PS him if he is not ready to play in the NFL. Otherwise we shouldn't bother picking him. Regardless I think we have the roster space if we release Coleman who is near useless, IMO.

Agreed, he will not make it to the PS. Cowboys may have to release more than just Coleman if a DL is chosen in the first round too.
