Dear Journal,
http://www.jbscouting.com/index.php/blog/539-ansah-wk6
I flew out to Indy on Saturday morning. It was real early. My flight was at 7:30. Devin McCourty and I had the same flight. We flew out and first thing we did was sign in and get our room key. Then we went to the hospital to do physicals. We did urine tests, gave blood, and just medical stuff. Then we had an orientation meeting and dinner. It was cool to see big name guys like Tebow, Suh, Bradford. Coming from a small school I was not in aw but I was just like man I am here with these guys competing in the same environment. Seeing Eric Berry the top DB and Taylor Mays it was pretty cool. That was the first day.
We got a whole bunch of workout gear and stuff. We stayed in the concourse hotel and within walking distance there was another hotel where my trainer was so when we had break time we would go over there and get stretched out and get a protein shake or two. It was real cool to have him there. In that hotel there were Nike, Reebok, and Under Armour suites. You just walk in and introduce yourself and they give you like two pair of cleets, shoes, gloves, workout gear, and you could get a massage. It was a real cool experience. That was cool getting some free stuff.
The second day was another medical day. This was way more intense where we met with all of the team doctors from each team. Each one examines you. One of the doctors that is doing the surgery for my shoulder is one of the team doctors there so he helped me a lot and explained what he would do. I could tell a lot of the teams were confident because the doctor doing my surgery is real recognized. That turned out pretty good. They checked out everything from your toes to your head.
The DBs were split in two groups and I was in the second group, number 36.
The third day was the testing day like the psychological testing and wonderlic testing. Some took up to an hour and a half or two hours long. The weirdest question they asked was if they went to my facebook what they would find. That was it. Nobody really asked a weird question and that surprised me.
Every night you had informal and formal interviews. Formal interviews you had a lanyard with a card and a list of rooms and times. Each meeting you had to prepare for. All the rooms in the hotel we stayed in were labeled for a team. For the informal meetings there was a big cafeteria and each team had a table and you walk in and basically it was like an auction and scouts were pulling you left and right. It was real hectic and real busy. That was pretty cool too. I had like 11 or 12 formal meetings. In the formal meetings you meet the head coach, sometimes GMs, owners, coaches, scouts. There could be like 20 people in each room. It was cool to meet these coaches you see on television. Most of my meetings were just about my defense because it is not a regular pro style defense.
Those four days were the longest of my life. You wake up at 6 am and you were up until 11 or 11:30 at night. By the time we came to physical testing on the last day you are still exhausted. It was a unique situation though.
The last day we took pictures and basically got ready. They split us up in groups and told us what to do and we got focused on the 40 and other drills.
I think I did real well in position drills. A lot of scouts wanted to see if I could back pedal and turn my hips. In my film I am not really using the back pedal technique. I think I impressed a lot of scouts with how I did that. I think I did pretty good not dropping any balls, which I focused on.
It was a real fun experience, draining, but fun.
March 12th is my pro day at Ohio State. I am working out there. My pro day scheduled at IUP got cancelled. I will be working out there.
One of my former position coaches now works for the Chiefs so it was cool to see him there.
I did not bench at the combine and seeing that I was frustrated because I could not do it. I can’t wait to do it at my pro day. It was unique seeing something you wish you could do but can’t. Other than that, that is basically it.
Talk to you next week!
