MOBILE, Ala. -- The Dallas Cowboys will interview former Miami Hurricanes coach Al Golden for a spot on Jason Garrett's coaching staff Wednesday.

Golden will meet with Garrett in Mobile, Alabama, where the Cowboys are coaching the North team in the Senior Bowl. The Cowboys have a vacancy at secondary coach after the departure of Jerome Henderson to the Atlanta Falcons.

Golden went 32-25 with Miami but was fired in October of last season.

He and Garrett never have worked together but have developed a relationship over the years. Golden visited with Garrett and the Cowboys' staff last offseason.

A tight end at Penn State, Golden coached linebackers at Boston College and Penn State and was the defensive coordinator at Virginia. He was the head coach at Temple from 2006 to '10...

Today someone was posting he got an assistant job with us. Now it's he's interviewing which makes more sense.

Was suggested in that thread that he would be coaching on the defensive side of the ball although he's an offensive coach to my understanding.

Anyways, Leslie Frazier took a secondary coach position last week, why can't we get someone of that ilk to coach a part of this defense that has been struggling pretty much the last decade and some?

There's the answer.

Marinelli did though and I'm sure Frazier was a Lovie Smith guy too ;).

It's about the $ and it goes to show that Garrett does have say so on his staff. Even after this season.

He just wants his guys. Hope that works.

He was a tight end in college, but coached defense and was a Head Coach as a collegiate. Philadelphia had an offensive specialist as a Defensive Coordinator under Reid, once also.

Yes, Kiffin brought Marinelli here originally. Was Marinelli not extended and promoted? Kiffin was not.

My point is, does Marinelli not have someone he would prefer as a db coach? Like Rob Ryan was able to bring Eberflus, Henderson and his dline coach here. As well, if there is someone we did like that was proven but hesitant because of working for Red, the money is always a good reason to take the position.

But we are talking about getting a Leslie Frazier caliber coach and I said we don't get those coaches. You said Marinelli so I replied that Kiffin was the reason he came. Has nothing to do with why he stayed.

Marinelli would have to influence a coach like that too come in

That's right and we'd also have to combine that with a hefty payment.

Coaches come coach for the coaches they are comfortable with and can get them paid.

I don't see why you think there is any disagreement. Just adding to the point.

Well thanks for the info.
I think JG hire coaches who he likes, and knows, and are I guess rkg too.
then figures they can coach whatever he needs them too.

I think that is flawed, he needs to look for someone with ideas on how to make that area better, and has been
showing success in that area elsewhere.

the OC and DC should hire their own assistants, and if they fail they all go.

No need worry, he signed with the Lions as a TE coach today. Back to the drawing board ...
