I'm happy for him. Johnson is a hard worker and capable player. Good for him that he's found himself a place where he can start.

Kinda sounds like some of us on this board in reference to Mr. Leonard Davis.

Yeah, that's what I was aiming for. It's the nature of internet chat. Leading up to today everyone at Az was probably saying that Dallas was stupid because we brought in someone that they didn't even want to keep. They are probably now pumped up about Johnson. He probably got a small contract though.

Seeing that tons of 2nd round picks never start a single game, Johnson has been decent.

Some day you'll learn that guys are not either all good or all bad. Just like us grown up fans.

Yes, in the end Al was a solid but not spectacular player. He'll flourish in the right system (Denver comes to mind), not sure about AZ.

Do we get any compensation for him leaving?

Yes and no. A compensatory pick wouldn't be out of the question if things fell correctly.

But since we signed another teams former 1st round pick the balance here isn't in our favor.

Where they were drafted has no bearing at all. AdamJT has the formula figured out about as well as a human can, so don't quote me, he'd be the one to ask, but it's based on the number of free agents signed, dollar value of their contracts and then playing time is somehow factored in.

Dallas has signed one qualifying FA in Davis because I don't think Johnson counts because he was cut.

If Dallas loses Columbo, he'd cancel out Davis so Dallas may get a pick for Johnson if he signed for enough or even someone like Singleton.

Ok so I wonder who the Cowboys have on their radar for a backup center?

I'm not positive but I believe the formula focuses on guys you drafted

In the old days we would. Now I am uncertain. If we do I'm guessing it would be for the 2008 draft but hope smomebody who knows more than me can address this with more certainly.

Yes, he was a major success story. LOL. Get serious.

For a guy to come in and start at center as a rookie is pretty good. Got two good years out of the guy. It was a gamble...Parcells wanted to see if he could develop NFL strength. He couldn't.

Tempe, AZ -- The Arizona Cardinals Football Club announced that the team has agreed to terms with free-agent center Al Johnson on a four-year contract. In accordance with club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Johnson (6-foot-5, 311 pounds) was a two-year starter with the Cowboys (2004-05) and appeared in all 16 games last season with Dallas as a reserve offensive lineman.

Originally a second-round selection by the Cowboys in the 2003 NFL Draft out of Wisconsin (No. 38 overall), Johnson started 31 straight games at center during the 2004 and 2005 seasons after spending his rookie campaign on injured reserve (knee). In 2005 Johnson helped a Dallas offense that finished second in the NFL in time of possession at 32:24 per game.

The Brussels, Wis., native was a three-year starter at center for Wisconsin. As a senior captain in 2002, Johnson was an All-Big Ten second-team choice while garnering third-team All-America honors.

Johnson was decent- sometimes good. He just could not handle the big DTs and NTs. In a zone blocking scheme he might be very good.
