There isn't one player on that NM State team that could start for Alabama. Bama's 4th string could beat NM State, yes yes the little guy makes $$$$$ but damn this is stupid and does need to stop, it just looks bad.

New Mexico State is 1-8, not just a RinkyDinky program but a real bad one.

Teams need to just play those in their conference.

Agree with you but sometimes money talks. I had a coach who told my class once that he holds the dubious distinction of having the most consecutive loss for a college basketball coach. He said he was playing teams that were way out of his class, Kentucky, Kansas but his program needed the money so they scheduled those teams.
