Talk about a bad omen. Alabama’s crystal BCS Championship Trophy from last fall’s title team was shattered during Saturday’s A-Day scrimmage, reported Tide Nation.

The trophy, valued at $30,000, was reportedly knocked off its podium by a current player’s father, who tripped on a rug that sits at the bottom of the display. It was located at the Mal Moore Athletic Facility halls, which holds Nick Saban’s office. Alex Scarborough of ESPN Radio tweeted out a picture (above, inset) of a tiny piece of crystal, saying “here’s what’s left.”

If I were a player on that team, I'd want a piece.

Not joking.

So yours will float by and catch up to Juke's?

Dan Patrick had a good idea about this on his show this morning.

He said Alabama should auction off each broken piece for $100. He said that many boosters and fans would kill to have a piece of that trophy, even though it's broken. Then they should donate the proceeds to the tornado victims.

I thought it was a great idea.

They said, that the company that makes them will send them another.

Florida had the same thing happen in 06, and in 04 had two stolen.

Saw that it was TE Orson Charles who broke the 2006 trophy while on a recruiting visit to Florida. And then he committed to Georgia.

:laugh2:

First of all, why the hell would you make a trophy our of glass. A trophy should last a lifetime and glass is not something that can/will stand the test of time...as we just saw.

And, it's a football, but it's not that great looking. It looks like those dumb trophys that golf or tennis give out...some of those are made of glass and are fugly...

It's crystal...not much difference from glass, except for the price.

It broke, right?
