Does this draft immediately make us closer to the eagles/commanders?

Well yeah, if the Cowboys go on a 2-3 year rebuild thing they ought to be much better around the time when Philly has to make their “tough decisions”

Yeah….like where to safely keep their rings, but different discussion.

What I ask is what the Dallas QB room looks like by that time. Is Dak in a wheelchair or not quite? Did he figure out all the rest that need not be repeated?

Their unwillingness to properly do a rebuild will make it fall short. Half measures don’t generally work but Jerry wants to be a celebrity, so they can’t be awful for a year or three. No Netflix specials in that case.

One day it’s “all-in,” then they do nothing.

At the SB Jerry said he wouldn’t have signed Prescott if it wasn’t about winning now….then says this draft was about getting things done over the next 2-3 years.

All over the map with every bit of it.
I think the Eagles are on a 2-3 year rebuild right now. They had a decent draft. They have five of the first 100 picks in next year’s draft. 12 picks overall. They seem to have planned ahead for their imminent demise.

You can’t listen to Jerry and then try to make sense out of anything. He’s literally incapable of communicating clearly what the team is doing.

The answer? What he does (or doesn’t do) speaks way more than what he says.

They had 1 season where they did things the right way…it’s not about us. It’s about them not having enough of a sample size to just say they run things the right way
It is about us. Not doing things the right way means you don’t win superbowls.
In one season they managed to do what we haven’t in 29 years.
They’ve already done more in one offseason than we have in more than 10.
They will run things the right way way and you’re a fool if you believe otherwise, sample size be dammed!

Early take on our draft is most of the guys we got are really good football players. The guys from rounds 1-3 will all either start or have big impact almost immediately. The Day 3 guys are ok on paper… BUT I can’t say that this draft has immediately put this team in a better position to compete with the eagles and commanders. I Just can’t.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the guys we drafted in rounds 1-3.
  • 1st rounder Tyler Booker is a plug and play beast at G, I wish they could’ve traded down a couple spots to pick up a 4th rounder, but still a solid pick. A high character guy who was a captain at Alabama.
  • 2nd round DE Donovan Ezeiruaku is a very talented pass rusher. EZ is also a high character guy who was also a team captain at Boston College.
  • 3rd round CB Shavon Revel is a first round talent recovering from a knee injury. Where have we heard that before? Hopefully he’s fully recovered by Sept.
No problem really with those guys as far as their talent. They should contribute immediately. But if we are all being honest without the blue tinted fan glasses, the Cowboys STILL have glaring weaknesses at WR, RB and DT, three positions they badly needed an influx of top shelf talent.

So on Day 3 we acquired:
  • 5th round RB Jaydon Blue and he’s fast but he’s also small and not more than 8-10 touches a game guy who has had fumble issues. Are we better at RB? Hmmm….
  • 5th round traded up to get Florida LB Shemar James. A talented kid if not a little small. Seems a lot like last year’s 3rd round pick Marist Liafau.
  • 6th round picked up T Ajani Cornelius from Oregon. Backup swing T was not on my bingo card as a pressing need.
  • 7th round got UCLA DT Jay Toia, a big aggressive DT. But does this late sleeper suddenly make Mazi Smith a bad memory?
Like all drafts we need to wait on grading the 2025 Cowboys draft for at least a year; probably more like two years. Starting immediately, fans and the media will issue grades now but we really won’t know until pads are on and the real bullets fly in the regular season.

But if I am answering the question, “Did this draft get us closer to the eagles and commanders?” I would have to say no at this point.
This draft was absolutely outstanding.

No, not immediately. It does have the potential to do so in the future.

The overall infusion of talent and youth means that the Cowboys could peak just as the Eagles talent pool is declining.

The Cowboys have many emerging stars whereas most of the Eagles key players are at or above their prime years.
Hey, genius, if you had done a little research instead of making stuff up, you would know that the Eagles team is younger than the Cowboys. The Eagles are the sixth-youngest team.

Of course, but we were 3-5 w/ Dak, who was looking awful.
You don’t know how the whole season would have played out. Love him, hate him or something in between, Dak has been a winning QB in regular season

You’re a fool if because of one offseason you believe that means any franchise is doing things the right way. It takes multiple years of consistency. You’re a hyperbolic fan.
