When I first heard he was being released, I shrugged it off as just another over the hill player who should be making retirement plans. However, the article on ESPN about him has something that has me intrigued. The article says this:

Faneca, 33, didn't say where he might end up, but he figures to attract interest. The Jets owe him $5.25 million, so he probably will sign somewhere for the veterans minimum -- a bargain for a team looking for an accomplished former Super Bowl champion.

So, here's an idea: Sign Faneca to 2 year contract with very little bonus ( 2 millions, let's say ). Having him compete with Kosier for the starting spot this year, which he should win easily, and then keep Kosier as the experienced back up who can play either guard position. Then, in next year's draft, pick up a guard early in the draft and have him be Faneca's understudy in his last year.

I think Faneca would help bring along Free the way he had a hand in the developing of D'Brickashaw Ferguson after his first couple of seasons.

I don't care if he is an accomplished former Super Bowl champion the fact is he can't pass block any more in a pass first league.

Vet minimum or not I'd pass.

Ferguson struggled a lot early on. I don't think Faneca signs here unless he starts. Koiser is 2 years younger and will be a FA next season. Koiser is one of the most fundamentally solid players on our line. I do not do that unless Faneca is willing to sign with the possibility of being a backup and does it cheap.

That is highly doubtful.

The reason he would get vet minimum is that anything he's paid is subtracted from what the Jets owe him. So he doesn't really get that money. Giving him a 2 million bonus would only help the Jets. He's going to want to go to a team where he has a chance to start.

I like Koiser as well.

I'm not a Kosier fan... Haven't been for sometime now ( past 2 years or so ).
