Was having this discussion with a friend earlier. Wanted thoughts.

What’s your favorite alcohol to put in egg nog?

I usually go with southern comfort.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Ok, I've got egg nog, what alcohol are you willing to trade me for it?

Damn, I thought Booger sucked at trading.

Never tried southern comfort but I've had it with brandy before and liked it.

That is two for brandy. Never tried it. But I may just give it a go this week.

it’s good with southern comfort. Southern comfort even sells their own egg nog specifically for it.

Spiced rum or vodka. My wife brought home some maple vodka from a local distillery last week. I need to do a bit more testing but it is a strong contender for new favorite eggnog mix.

You new Englanders put maple syrup in everything.

Not gonna lie though. As a vodka guy that does sound delicious.

You ain't kidding. I live right at ground zero for maple production in the USA and right next to Quebec which is the highest maple producer in North America.

You don't want to get caught with a bottle of maple flavored corn syrup in these parts!:laugh:

I prefer Bourbon but I think dark Rum or Brandy are popular too.

There are people that try to make a version of a "EggNog Martini" using vodka. I've never seen anyone do it, but heard second hand.

if you pick vodka in egg nog you might be a serial killer

you need something dark and strong to cancel out the egg nog flavor

Lol I believe it man. I have relatives who live in New England. They get fired up when they’re in the area visiting and anyone pulls out some aunt jemima. Haha

The usual is either bourbon, brandy or amber or dark rum but if you want one with some pizazz and have the ladies voting you bartender of the year, try this. Make a mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg and just a little turbinado sugar and put that on the rim of a wine glass. Put 4 ozs of the best egg nog you can find in a cocktail skaker, I like Promised Land for store bought because it's not too sweet, add 1 oz of either Amaretto, Frangelico, Grand Marnier and I've even gone half and half with Bailey's and an oz of Kahlua or Tia Maria. The cocktail shaker and straining it reduces some of the thickness and makes it more drinkable to me and people I used to make these for.

Some time back, for a Christmas party, I did a punch bowl of a bottle of Courvoisier and Amaretto plus 4 bottles of egg nog and the guys were laughing at me making a punch and even having a punch bowl set until they started drinking that stuff. I had to make a second batch.

Can’t do spiced rum anymore. Had one really really bad night with captain Morgan’s in my younger years. Can’t stand a sip of it since. Lol
I "learned" how to drink on rum. Too many times I tempted the devil by drinking more than I should have and would spill my guts. I can't stand rum now of any variety. Just the smell of it turns my stomach like it used to way back in the day.
