Aldon Smith interview

Maybe because none of us know the timeline or what has to happen in the meantime?

What’s the rush? Is this just to satisfy some fan craving for information because we’re in quarantine?

There are no OTA’s, no training camp, no meeting with the team.

Accelerating reinstatement for suspended players is likely a very low priority and reasonably so.

Besides, we have no idea what’s actually going on. The planet doesn’t revolve around fans curiosity.
Awww, then what are you doing here? Go quarantine yourself instead of wasting time on a fans forum. Sheesh.

I don't think he'll have any problems with a recurrence of the booze/behavioral issues. Having success on the field is another issue. A 4 year layoff is a long long time in Pro Football. Players that have returned after 1 or 2 years off have often described it as much more difficult than anticipated. He'll be 31 near the beginning of this season.

On the plus side, he does not need to be the elite player that he was at one time. He just needs to be better than the 4th best DE on the Cowboys roster which has not been a high bar most years.
He also didn't rely on speed and bend. He just used his freaky long arms to keep the OL off of him and just slipped their blocks with his strength.

I bet he would be able to mentor Gregory. Now that I think about it his reinstatement could have a lot to do with Gregory’s.

Just got to hope during the season he doesn't get tempted/his teammates don't take him places where he can cave into alcohol again.

The Cowboys have a new guy involved in the player emotion support side of things. He is well regarded in his field from what I recall of the reports when he was hired. There is a video of him that was posted at some point.

Good point. Certain types of players tend to play longer.

Dirk played in the NBA 19 years because he was 7' and was one of the best ever in terms of shooting skills. He didn't rely on elite athleticism.

WRs that develop as elite route runners tend to last longer than guys like Dez that succeed purely on physical ability.

DBs with elite speed tend to last longer because they can lose some speed as they age and still be as fast as young DBs with average speed (i.e. Charles Woodson).

That's a big reason why players have more of a chance rehabbing an addiction is just being away from that life, that influence?
Maturity can overcome a lot of hurdles, and Im hoping a mature 30 yr old Aldon Smith is also a fresh 30 yr old, bigger than drafted, stronger than drafted,,,lol maybe...
We call them fresh 30 yr old legs...

Interesting take on McCarthy. I haven't followed his career, but never really thought that he's a "Player's coach".

Sounded sincere and looked good at 287 and in drills. One productive season from him would be like found money.

This is important.

I keep comparing him to Julius Peppers, in that regard. Guys with this skillset can be good for a long time after they lose their first step. Smith actually has longer arms than peppers.
