News: Aldon Smith: Same Intensity

I am sure Smith is not going to sign a long term deal now. He will wait until the end of the season and look for the best contract he can get from any team in the league. That's the smart play, especially since he is playing so well. The Cowboys are limited by the Dak contract and he knows it.

Crawford might very well be in his last year, so that will augment the FO's payroll. Yet, you're right about Dak's contract being a sticking point. Hopefully, Stephen will find ways to deal with it without fleecing this team too badly. The defense will need a boost next year. Let's hope it occurs.

So..

If you envision Smith here for 5 years

That's Dak leaving Jerrahs office?

For real.

This story has more twists and turns than a Hercule Peroit Mystery.

Is there anymore drama we can add to this novellett?

I know..Dalton gets us in the playoffs and everybody starts to question if Dalton is just too good to let him walk.?

Dalton makes the other teams wish Dak was back instead of Dalton. Dalton gets his revenge against his detractors. He is voted to the Pro Bowl again but there is no Pro Bowl becuz it's cancelled.

The players revolt and agree to have their own Pro Bowl but it will be in Central Park free to the public. Masks and gloves and blankets and coolers required.

Dalton wins MVP and he agrees to backup Dak. Dak lowers his contract offer to fit Dalton under the cap.

Dallas fans stop bickering. Everybody joins arms and sings Cumbaya.

A Cumbaya gathering would surely be uplifting but sadly, Cowboys' Nation has enough trolls to keep the dissention churning. o_O

Please don’t wait until he costs 8-10mil.
I think he's already priced himself into that range. Maybe no one will give him that average for a 3 or 4 year deal. But, with what he's already shown, there are NFL teams right now who would get in line to pay him that kind of money on a less risky 1-year deal, I think.

Now, if he keeps up the pace over the whole season and avoids any off-field trouble, not only does his price go up but the ability to command longer-term offers does too. Though I could be wrong, and it's possible there's no amount of damage-control he can do now to get teams to trust him enough to sign him to a longer deal in case he self-destructs again.

As of now the Cowboys have $27 million in cap space in 2021 with only 41 players under contract. If they franchise Dak, they will need to free up about $10 million just to sign him, then they need money to sign other players and rookie draft picks. Two players, Lawrence and Cooper will take up $47 million of their cap space. Zeke and Tyron Smith will take up another $28 million. If they cut or Trade Tyron they only get a small save from that. They can't cut Zeke, Cooper or Lawrence without taking a huge CAP hit.

I think this means they will restructure these guys making it more difficult to cut them loose in the future. Or, they let Dak go and try to win with Andy Dalton until Ben DiNucci develops into an NFL QB.

We tried to pilfer that QB from Detroit's practice squad but they signed him to their 53 active roster. Our FO is definitely concerned about fortifying our QB structure in lieu of something happening to deplete it. Perhaps we're taking precautions to allow for Andy's possible departure in 2021. We'll see.

...they will probably tag Dak again. Since he has to prove himself he is alright. Maybe leaving room to sign Smith and others.

Knowing this organization, Crawford could well be back on a 1 year deal .. just for the sake of pat-back favor and bias.

Dude has easily been one of the more ineffective players on the defense, but yet we'll
find a way to bring him back simply because he is a rah-rah type in the locker room.

a 9 million dollar ineffective player who still is getting bounced and knocked around in the trenches ... we just gave away charity money to him because he's a good buddy type.
