Who do you think is the better Player?

Alex Barron or Jamal Brown

Brown's easily the better player, and WAS wouldn't trade for him if he weren't at least healthy enough to pass a physical.

I wouldn't surprise me if Washington traded for a guy with no legs and then gave him a record contract.

We won't know which move is better until we see them play a little. However, there are other factors. They gave up picks while Dallas gave up a player they would have cut. They will also have to pay big money to Brown to get him to sign his tender so he can be traded. Right now, I think I'd rather have Barron and the picks than Brown with a huge contract. You have to remember Dallas has Free who they like and think can start and was really only looking for a backup swing tackle. The skins had nobody they thought could start so they had to make a move. Lets see how they play, what picks it took to get Brown, and what kind of contract Brown and Barron command in the near future, and then we will know who made the better deal.

I don't think the Saints would have given us Jamal Brown anyway unless they got something big in return.

Hard choice. One of the worst starting tackles in the league for Carpenter or a decent tackle who's coming off injury for a 3/4. I'd say it's six in one, half dozen in the other.

Doesn't matter since neither would start here, though.

I wonder about that.

If the team had acquired Brown, he may have been moved to right tackle like the Commanders are doing with him, sending Colombo to the bench (or worse).

Or perhaps our inquiry ended when we realized he was too limited to play left tackle?

I think the clincher was finding anyone interested in taking Bobby Carpenter.

Once someone agreed to that, the deal was done.

How was he too limited? The guy was a borderline probowl LT before he was injured. I know he went to the skins but people are not being honest in his evaluation right now.

Injuries aside, Brown is a better player than Barron. But the real question is "who is the better player for Dallas?" And for that, I'd answer "Barron". Why, because Brown would have to start here, but it won't be at RT so would it be LT? And why go through the trouble of trading for an injured free-agent LT when you always had the option to re-sign Flozell Adams? (By the way, the Hotel still has vacancy.).

Dallas wanted to move from older/declining at LT to younger/up-and-coming. Baron can still fit that definition a bit better than Brown, but Free meets it best which is why he's starting. And with that, Barron can be used as a swing tackle without the conteroversy someone like Brown would cause if you told him he had to be the backup swing tackle.

Bingo.

If we're being honest here its Brown and its not even a question.

Based off past performance it's Brown hands down. But right now it's anybody's guess how well Brown can perform after major hip and knee surgery. It's obvious the Saints were not going to gamble on him being the same guy.

Barron was the safer choice at this point because we know he is healthy. Hudson Houck always seem to get the best out of players with enormous physical talent, as long as Barron is willing to put in the work nobody will even care that Brown went to Washington.

Good thing is if Brown shows he has no ill effects this season he will again be available as a FA next year.

I've always thought Brown was overrated but I would still take him over Barron and possibly Free.

This is true but passing a physical is one thing, playing at a high lvl after the injuries he had is another. Seems the Saints would have kept him if they were willing to take the same gamble Washington has, but they chose to go in a different direction.

The jury will be out on Brown's comeback until he performs at a high lvl on the field again.
