ARod is just not very likable. But anyone thinking he isn't Hall of Fame worthy is just wrong.
The HoF is loaded with cheaters. Be it via pitchers who used vaseline, hitters who used excessive pine tar or the many, many drug users and abusers.

ARod and Bonds were the best NATURAL players of this era. When they added Roids they basically recovered more quickly from injuries and gained even more impressive home run power.
But those guys were studs by 18 years old before taking a steroid 1. And both would have been in without drugs.
But they were clearly competing against massive quantities of guys on drugs.
It's hardly as if they were the rare player to pin.
Keeping them out of the Hall of Fame renders it pretty much meaningless imho.

If you want to stop cheating, I am all for it, but you can't punish actual accomplishments and accumulated stats on some personal basis.
Create some rule to wipe out the stats of the year caught if you like.
But do that and Bonds and ARod still get in 1st ballot based on career numbers.
As to the Yankees no one should feel sorry for them. They chose to spend crazy money on guys at their very peak assuming that lasts when it never does.

The thing is he didn't need the performance enhancing drugs...

.295 lifetime average- 696 HR's with, what would he have had without? Probably at least 500 HR's and a .280 average. It wasn't like he was an untalented shmuck. He would have made the HOF without the PEDs.

Same with Barry Bonds.

Here's the thing...

I used to think so about AROD... But you hear more and more that he was on something very, very early on.
If steroids give you 10% more power then how many fly balls that would have been outs went out for home runs? Ballpark hone plate to the wall... Let's use 300ft. 10% is 30 feel. An out was a hone run for him in how many cases..

Now, I don't feel that Bonds was great. Before the 90s steroids revolution he hit well below .300 plenty of times. The guy grew hat sizes, hat sizes in his late 30's... 40's....

His moon shots were definitely benefical of the 10% steroid advantage.

It was kind of embarrassing watching these two play.

The real home run king is still Babe Ruth.
Hank Aaron needed almost 4,000 more at bats.

An asterisk next to Maris and Aaron is needed.
An asterisk next to future hall of famers that were in steroids is needed... Heck.... Color coated asterisks works....

Green asterisk = needed more games to beat record
Red asterisk = used steroids
Gold asterisk = bet on baseball... Pete Rose and a few others .... Wayyyyyyyy back when....

Bonds wasn't great before the roids? He was a 14 time all star, 12 time silver slugger, 8 time gold glove winner, 5 time member of the 30-30 club, one of 4 members in the 40-40 club.

Read between the lines Bob, He was not great because he did not play for the Yankees.

Any team would have loved to have had the pre steroid Bonds....Now he is passing on his "knowledge" to Jon Carlos...

Asterisks are stupid arguments. Maris played the games on his schedule. Bonds hit the most balls out of the park in MLB history. Putting "asterisks" on numbers is essentially plugging your ears and acting like it didn't happen.

Steroids happened in baseball. How many guys were juiced up on the mound opposite Bonds? Look at the size of the guys who have been suspended for steroids. Dee Gordon - 5'11, 171 lbs. The most recent guy, Alec Asher, is 0-9 with a 9.31 ERA. Steroids are ALL OVER the place in baseball, and have been for a while. You can't just cherry pick the guys you want to and say "that doesn't count, that doesn't count, and that doesn't count."

Mike Schmidt admitted using amphetamines, supposedly Willie Stargell supplied the Pirates clubhouse with greenies, Willie Mays took amphetamines, Babe Ruth injected himself with some extract from sheep testicles. People have been using PEDs since the beginning of the game. There's a good chance all the "holy" records in baseball were somewhat PED aided. The witch-hunt in recent years is ridiculous.

We literally have no idea how long he used PEDs for. Rodriguez hasn't been truthful about his use, so there's no way of verifying that he only began using them once he became a Ranger.

It wouldn't surprise me to hear that he used them when he was early in his career. I have no idea whether he needed them or not, but he clearly believed that he did.

Absolute joke calling it a retirement. You don't get all of next years salary if you retire
He was released

I'm tired of owners and players that think the fans are dumb.
Im all for doing this classy but was Alex classy suing the very organization he played for or was it classy for the Yankees to keep him on the bench for fear of him getting his 6 million dollar bonus at 700 home runs

There was no bonus for getting 700 homeruns - his next milestone was 714, then 755 and then 762.

He was on the bench because he can't play the field anymore, and he couldn't hit. Nothing more, nothing less. Hell, he played regularly in 2015, when he was even more of a pariah. If he could hit, and this present Yankee lineup hits like a bunch of pillow fighters, he would be playing.

Bonds was a HOF player prior to going on roids. He was a spectacular hitter and a true five tool player.

Same as Clemens being a HOF pitcher before going on roids.

As for Ruth, keep in mind also that he achieved his numbers when he didn't compete against black or latino players. I do think that Ruth is the most prolific offensive player in baseball history, but there does need to be some perspective when you compare who he competed against compared to Aaron.

Understood. I get your points...

But spectacular?

Hitting under .300 6 times by 1995 and blowing chunks in playoffs ? .167, .148 and .261

Did you ever watch the guy play? Bonds was one of the top three or so players in the game during his time in Pittsburgh and San Francisco before going on steroids. The guy was a three time MVP before he used steroids. That's the very definition of spectacular.

Yes. I saw him play. Not all the time obviously... But it is what it is.... Sub .300 seasons and poor post seasons.

I have to admit that is getting a kick out of the Hal "Michael Corleone" Steinbrenner treatment of AROD.

Different than George ... But just as crushing lol

9) Michael: Pettitte is retired. So is Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera. Jorge Posada. Texeira. Today I settled all family business so don't tell me that you're innocent.

Admit what you did...

Get him a drink.

Don't be afraid, Alex. Come on, you think I'd make miss the chance at 700 home runs as a Yankee?

I'm Godfather Of the Yankees.

Go ahead. Drink. Drink.

Go ahead. There's a car waiting for you.... Lol

TBT has, this week, been replaced with KBT

Knuckle Ball Thursday.

I predict 2 strikeouts and double play or two.
