49ers | A. Smith to take pay cut
Tue, 10 Mar 2009 10:42:40 -0700

Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers announced that they have agreed with QB Alex D. Smith on a pay reduction as part of a new two-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. "We have reached an agreement with Alex and his agent to keep him as a member of the San Francisco 49ers," general manager Scot McCloughan said. "Alex expressed a deep interest to remain with the team and that feeling was mutual."

He took it because he has barely played the last 2 years, he knows hes a complete bust, and would probably have been released if he didnt take a cut.

I would think Norv in SD would have had some interest as a backup. Alex actually looked competent under Norv.

Sure. Any first round players we have that were drafted to be the face of the franchise should immediately restructure their deal if they're not playing, or going to be starting, after 3 or 4 years in the league now.

I thought that at first, but the team has Volek and Whitehurst behind the very durable Rivers. Those guys have thrown a total of like 20 passes since Rivers took over. Last thing they need is another QB - hell, if they could move Whitehurst, I expect they would just go with 2 QBs on the roster.

NFL Insider: Warner still willing to cut pay to keep Boldin

By Jim Corbett, USA TODAY

There is no clause in his new, $23 million, two-year deal reflecting Kurt Warner's offer.

But the Arizona Cardinals quarterback, who turns 38 in June, reiterated a pledge to leave $1 million a year on the table if it goes toward redoing wideout Anquan Boldin's deal, which has two years remaining.

"I'm only around for two more years, and I want to win. And I'm happy to do everything I possibly can to help us accomplish that," Warner said Monday.

To those struggling in grim economic times who have difficulty fathoming his deal, Warner says he is sensitive. Though Warner had to visit San Francisco to leverage a better deal from the team he led to its first Super Bowl, one Arizonan vented.

"In this time of economic uncertainty, it is very hard for me to understand how a football player is being paid $23 million for a two-year contract," Dan Dillon of Goodyear, Ariz., wrote March 8 in a letter to The (Phoenix) Arizona Republic. "Countless Arizonans have lost their jobs, and this includes teachers. ...

Tony Romo should give up some money for each INT and fumble.

should he ask for more everytime he throws a TD???

He's a QB, he's SUPPOSED to throw TDs. He's NOT supposed to fumble or throw INTs.

WRs are supposed to catch passes. When they don't, they get the boot and same should apply to everybody else that doesn't do their job.

ITs called stadiums that seat 80k and a TV contract. I swear people are morons. They make money other people are not. Its no their fault that people cannot get credit. If you don't like it then don't buy a ticket or watch the game on TC. Its really that simple.
