I hope San Fran is happy with there Henson at best quaterback they drafted last year.Let's see how long this clowns perfect wanderlink score holds up.I am giving his career 3 years tops.If he was available this year in the draft,he might have been the fifth quaterback taken in the draft.
I am by no means bragging about the qb depth in the draft this year but it is just that much better than last years.
I would happen to couple his skills as that of maybe Brodie Croyle.

Isn't it amazeing how much the top three picks get paid?I can't even say that Smith will make it threw a hole season, and am waiting for him to show up in the NFLE

I disagree, LOL, I think he would go in the 2nd round. I said last year that I thought San Fran should have taken 1 of the running backs that went early in last years draft, and waited until this year to go after a qb.

IMO, the Texans made the same mistake when they took Carr with the 1st pick of the draft just because they wanted to make a big splash and take a QB to give the fans something to cheer about.

I still think he'd be a top 10 pick. His TD to INT ratio was outstanding in college and he lost only 1 or 2 games as a starter. His stats would guarntee him a top spot IMO and I think he will develope into a very good NFL QB.

If the scouts could have seen how he did last year he'd go that low for sure, but I'd guess he'd be a second rounder this year.

I don't know what you all are smoking.

He may not be the number one overall this year, but he'd definitely go in the first half of the the first rd. I'd take him over VY and Cutler. And tho I think Leinart will be a good pro, he's definitely benefitting from Carson Palmer's success in the NFL.

He has very good tools for the position. Just b/c he struggled as a 9er last season doesn't mean he didn't warrant where he was taken. Top QBs usually end up in poor situations making it very difficult for them to shine their first 2 yrs. If we were to judge Aikman after his first season, you could very easily argue that he should've been taken i the 3rd or the 4th also. JMO.

He is going to need the help of his GM though, to put some talent around him.

I'm one of the few who thought, and still think, he'll be very good as a pro. No way would he be a 3rd or 4th rounder this year.

He played in a spread attack out of the shot gun. He like many others in that type of offense put up huge numbers against inferior college talent and that type rarely make it in the nfl.

teams who draft QBs in the second round expect them to start ASAP... even QUINCY got that tag!!! ALEX SMITH would not start for anyone execpt FRISCO (knowing what we know) who would promptly draft 1 of the big 3 QBs in the first round... leaving him a likely 3rd round pick if he came out this year!

thats why I've always felt if u have the chance to get the player u want and need, you do it no matter what the cost... and draft positions that are strong in the draft....

the 9ers were forced to take ALEX SMITH due to need and fan base... as we saw AARON ROGERS fall in the same draft every team in the NFL surely felt those players were a result of a weak QB draft class!

LOL and Aaron Rogers hasnt made anyone recall FARVe throwing 50 some picks last year!!!

That spread offense has become very popular in college in just the last couple of years. If you automatically threw out everyone who ran it, you'd be discarding a lot of good prospects.

Are you guys saying Vince Young won't be any good, either? (Ok, sorry, not trying to make this a(nother) VY thread.)

I think Smith will be good because he's accurate, very smart, and a surprisingly good athlete, not because of the numbers he put up.

JMO of course.

(And ABQ, I'm waiting for backup here!)

What? There are QBs drafted in the first round that aren't expected start their first year. In fact, probably the majority of QBs drafted in the first two rounds aren't expected to start their first year.

I'm sure I have a problem with this statement, but its mostly unintelligible.

No, they drafted him because they thought he was the best player to draft. They could have picked up some serviceable QBs in FA.

I thought all QBs in the first were expected to start? Also, it's Brett Favre. Earlier you talk about fans forcing teams to do things, but you think the fans wouldn't chit their pants if Favre was yanked for Rogers?

Make sure you read all of this first paragraph. Anyone who thinks he'd be a third or fourth rounder is crazy, moronic, or insert any negative comment here. Anyone who thought last year or this year for that matter that he DESERVES to be a third or fourth rounder, is correct in my opinion.

I just don't see any chance of him ever being an elite QB in the NFL. David Carr is still starting and IMO is better than Smith, but I think him going #1 overall was a bad pick too. I think the NFL brass over analyze QB's. Anyone can just watch a game and see that the Carr's, Smith's, and Harrington's aren't in the Eli Manning, Palmer, and Roethlisberger catagory. We'll see how I do on Aaron Rodgers, I think he's big time. Not as much as Ben and Eli, but more than Palmer (out of college).

This is in no way coming from NFL sucess, I liked and disliked all those picks straight out of college. I even prefered Feely over Harrington in college.

I agree, especially with that $20mil signing bonus, San Francisco will suffer for years from that pick. The smart move would have been to trade down, even if you didn't get great value. Let someone else hand him that $20mil.
