Instead of worrying about expanding the league they just need to concentrate on expanding the interest in the league. Me and my buddy talked about it and we think the real way to help expand football abroad would be through arena football. Its easier and cheaper to set up teams but at least we get american football into other countries that can help plant the seed to pull more players and lead to expanded interest in the NFL. We're really only pulling talent from North America and with the current number of teams it makes the talent look watered down. If we get great athletes from across the world trained to play football that could greatly bring up the talent level again in the NFL kind of like how the Europeans compete with if not better sometimes with Americans in the NBA. What do you guys think
I think it will be years until the rest of the world caught up to the US in talent in [American] football. That is if they start playing it.
And when I say years, I mean if and when they start playing it... and I mean when you see fathers and sons throwing the ball around in the yard instead of kicking it.... then add another generation or two.
Hockey, basketball, and baseball have been worldwide games for years. Hockey migrated into the US. Baseball started here, and was here for 150+ years before international players started being major contributors. Basketball started here and it was about 80 years before it was worldwide enough to commonly see international players in the league.
The NFL isn't going to see a lot of international players coming into the league overnight.
