  • Shanahan makes it easy for the QB.
    • When the 49ers made it to the Super Bowl in the 2019 season:
    • Jimmy G was 6 or 8 for 69 yards in a playoff win over the Packers...
    • They had 285 rushing yards in that game.
    • The offense appears to be very simple for Purdy.
  • Short Passes
    • They like to hit short passes to Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey, then let them gain Yards After the Catch.
    • Deebo had 18.5 YAC per catch in Wildcard game vs Seattle (111 total YAC yards).
    • Deebo 's Average Depth when targeted with Purdy as the starting QB was -0.65 (regular season).
    • McCaffrey's Average Depth when targeted with Purdy as the starting QB was 0.35 yards (regular season).
  • Intermediate/Long Passes
    • They use their run game and passes in the flat to get defenses to play zone coverage.
    • Then they use play-action and Purdy waits for his primary target to get into an open area in zone coverage.
    • I don't think Purdy is really "reading" the defense.
    • He moves his head to look-off defenders, but he appears to just be waiting for his primary target to get open.
    • If the defense stays in man-coverage, then they run outside and hit quick passes in the flat and let Deebo/McCaffrey run after the catch.
  • Purdy
    • He is good at evading the pass rush.
    • Reminds me of Romo in his method of evading pass rushers.
    • He also reminds me of Romo in that he'll scramble around waiting for this primary target to get open.
    • i.e. Romo waiting for Dez.
  • Zone Run Blocking
    • Their ZBS is all about precision over power.
    • They get defenders moving horizontally and then use their momentum against them.
    • With the Fullback and their ZBS, the angles for defenders are different than when playing other offenses.
  • Summary:
    • The coordination of run and pass plays is better than with many other teams.
    • Kyle Shanahan much like Sean McVay with the Rams has the big picture view to design the run & pass plays to compliment each other.

I might be reading this wrong and if I am please correct me, but I'm reading the bottom one as a slight knock on Romo? If you think Romo ran around waiting for Dez to get open I'm so sorry. You missed a lot of great football. You should go ask Miles Austin, Laurent Robinson, Cole Beasley, Patrick Crayton, Terrance Williams, Jason Witten ect ect how their 2nd contracts in the league were all because of the QB who only waited for Dez to get open.

We are such as fast flowing defense that SF will use that against us. They need to use their eyes. And you’re exactly right about Deebo and CMC. Just a dump off and they are gone. Fantastic at open field running

And there were some snaps where Romo would wait for Dez to clear the post or the like. All QBs do it, I think the point is that is all Purdy does.

I also believe Purdy resembles Tony Romo a lot. Not only his pocket awareness, but he takes some risks with his passes. Hasn't been in many close games, I wonder how he performs in a tight game or if he makes a mistake. I sense he could be a very streaky player. Quinn has a difficult decision, does he man up and come after Purdy and deal with those yac monsters in space or does he zone up and force Purdy to make passes in tight windows. Nothing will matter if they have success on the ground.

The key to the 49ers offense is Deebo Samuel.
They get him the ball in every way possible and use him out of backfield.
He is a huge weapon Dallas will have to account for.

49ers are really good at home, going 8-1.

Dallas DL will have to play it smart as they did last week.
DLaw, Micah and others had headsy plays where ball was out really fast to beat rush.
That will be the regular this game.

Purdy is not a good deep ball passer but he is good at getting ball out with accuracy and they do a lot of crossing and screening to turn 5 yard passes into 17 yard gains.

SF played a really poor schedule. The only quality team they played was KC and they got mollywhopped.
Probably a bit overrated.

Something the Cowboys did last week should be replicated. Just play Diggs and Bland and use ALL of the safeties. I want Wilson, Hooker, Kearse and Mukuamara on the field at ALL times. I do not think this is a good game for Anthony Barr- Damone Clark should just stick to whomever is in the backfield.

I want to see a lot of safeties keeping an eye on Purdy who will take off to run, but they need to STICK on the YAC. If SF is going to beat you, make them beat you with Purdy throwing it deep/intermediate, not with McCaffrey and Deebo running everywhere or Aiyuk getting open on slants for 7 yards over and over again.

And most importantly - don't eat the cheese. SF will use Parsons/Lawrence momentum and aggressiveness against them. I think they take Parsons out of the game by making him eat cheese. Nobody else. Personally, this is a game where I feature Parsons off the ball a lot more than at end. Let Lawrence & Williams/Armtrong rush from the ends and sent Parsons to work against the guards.

Not much more than an semi educated guess, but it sounds like the play of our linebackers is going to be key in this matchup.

Barr is damn slow and that’s a concern. Clark is green. LVE seems to be balling but he is fragile. Maybe they activate Cox for this one.

this is a game thta LB sn saftey speeds come to play. ability to get to the outside and seal off the edges. also Wilson is going to be key in run game and getting through the trash to make tackles. Managing those short screen and swing passes to Deebo and McCaffrey is key for defense. one of the safties should be spying each of them. and then its about pressure on the rookie. pressure him. hit him a few times, rattle him a bit to release early and get some interceptions.

offensively, we need to control the clock. running the ball will be hard, so passing game and short passing game is key. we need a couple of drives in first half like we did against Tampa.

It’ll be interesting to see how we play them. I think we have some decent matchups in man coverage.

  • Diggs on Ayuik
  • Kearse on Kittle
  • Wilson spying McCaffrey
  • Mukuamu on Deebo
To me the key to the defense is the last one with Mukuamu getting support. We need to use the LB’s to bracket Deebo, if we are gonna get beat, let it be Purdy on long/intermediate throws.

I think we should consider putting Diggs on a bit of an island as well. I don’t think Purdy will chance his arm too often on a Diggs Ayuik matchup.

Lastly I’d like to see Parsons freelance a bit more than normal from LB. Inexperienced QB’s can struggle with blitzes and having to adapt so I’d like to see a lot of different looks thrown at him.
