- I thought DeMarco Murray ran hard. He missed some holes and fumbled, but he carried the offense Sunday. And as good as DeMarco Murray ran on Sunday, his blocking in pass protection was even better. This offseason, I really wanted to see Dallas use Lance Dunbar more on passing downs and I am now seeing why they haven’t. DeMarco Murray is so good at recognizing blitzes and picking up linebackers that Dallas doesn’t want to take him off the field. I can honestly say he is the best pass-blocker right now in the entire league and he doesn’t get enough credit for it. Other than the fumble, that was the best game I have ever seen from him. He has a really good case as to why he should get a contract extension from Dallas.

- When the Cowboys drafted Bruce Carter, we knew he was a great special teams player and everyone was hoping that he would become a great linebacker. But I just want to take a few seconds to say that Carter may be able to make a bigger impact on special teams than he does on defense. Carter once blocked three punts in one quarter at North Carolina, something I’m sure has never happened before. Dallas has finally put Carter back on the punt-block team and he blocked one and has almost blocked another. J.J. Wilcox is another player that has fantastic “teams” ability. Carter may not be a great linebacker yet, but he is a great special teams player. I’m glad to see Dallas is finally using him there again.

I was thinking the same thing about Carter on punt blocking. Why haven't they had him there before. He had a large number of blocks in college.

Claiborne was playing man in this game and mostly zone in the Niners game, IIRC. He's definitely better in man.

Yes, Carter came out of college as a Punt/FG blocking threat. His speed/strength off the edge is tough to deal with. He had 1 block, and almost had another. Hopefully, our ST coaches will design a formation that allows him the best opportunity to get more blocks.

If I had a scout who knew nothing about the 2014 NFL Draft and had never heard of the name Zack Martin, I can guarantee you that he would not be able to tell that Zack Martin was a rookie or battling plantar fasciitis. Martin is going to be a good one for Dallas.

Martin really moves like a veteran, going to be a perennial pro bowler/all pro player one day

In Week One, Aikman must have said it a half dozen times during the game that Claiborne and Carr just aren't good zone guys but rather better man cover guys.

The played zone in game 1 because of Kap's running ability. Kap appears to specifically key on CBs playing man and will often immediately run outside in those situations.

I don't know what they will do against another running threat QB.

I still like the spy idea.

Good observations, nice to hear a positive report on Claiborne who I thought played well also.
