It leads you into bad decisions near mid field and sets the other team up in good field position half of the time. I wonder what the stats are regarding make % of over 55 yards and the resulting opponent points with a miss over 55 yards.

I would like to compare that with the 4th down try percentage from that range and resulting points per team of conversion or fail.

In short, is the better decision than a 59 yard kick , going for it on 4th and 7.

I would guess those decisions are made by every coach dependent on the frame of mind they are in at the time rather than being governed by an established protocol.

Ravens seem to handle it just fine and their kicker has the NFL record.

May the Good Lord see fit to grant Greg Zuerlein whatever he needs to overcome his curse of missing extra points . . .
I totally believe it cost us two games this season

There's one other choice -- and that's to pooch punt, trying to pin them inside their own 5, if possible. It's doable if you have a really good punter.

That's really it,,, the problem is pairing a big leg kicker with a defense that needs protection and a coach that can't keep his powder dry.

he hasnt lost us singled game , prove it ;;all his misses were early in game and if made say Bucs would have simply payed for a TD vs fg and the defense couldn't stop them all game..we haven't lost game because of our kicker or coaching decisions yet..,all these posts are ridiculous..

none of these games were lost over kick or poor coaching decision on to or going for it on 4th down or kicking the long kick vs a punt.,

there are distinct reasons that are plain to see for each loss

Bucs NO defense, that's clear..
Denver-the entire team was bad cant just pick on a player or coach, no one really showed to play.
KC- this was bad game for the offense but more so no run game on Moore, OL , and wrs drops were insane, show me a kick or xp actually cost us the game..
Raiders-Penalties and bad defense were more to blame then anyone..the OL wasnt good , no run game..again show me the xp missed would have changed the game...it doesnt

gregs not missed a clutch late game or OT kick and its why hes still here..hes been very average of late and not great but hes not the reason we lost any of those 4 games..

Unless his name is Justin Tucker. That dude is unreal.

A big leg kicker in the hands of a smart coach is a great weapon. In the hands of a fool, it is a temptation.

Let's not confuse the fact that Zuerlein stinks this year with the fact that he also has a big leg

Exactly
Lots of things factor in to a smart decision
It’s a big difference in 50 and 59
But how your defense is playing, score and many other factors
The time before the half or end of a game
I don’t have a problem trying a 50 yard kick in the right situation
A 59 yard kick unless it’s the end of the half or game is just too long and risky

You are an odd bird. You want me to prove that Zeurlein has not lost us games while the facts show that we lost to LV by 1 pt since his extra point was 1 less point and we went to OT because of it. YOU cannot prove how the game would have gone had he made and I cannot prove how the game would have gone had he made. Therefore the only evidence is the lost point on the scoreboard- so the only proof is in the scoreboard! Zeurlein missed an XP and a 33yrder vs Tampa. The only proof that he lost us that game in the fact that we lost by 2 and he cost us 4. I have the only proof - you have feelings and what if's!

You argued all day with me yesterday that Zeurlein is a good kicker while his career and yearly stats only put him in the top 15, 3 of his 10 years. He is in fact below average during his NFL time as a kicker - those are the facts and they are proof.
