All is not completely lost

At least in terms of this season simply because the other divisional contender(s) are just as flawed as we are. But the reality is this season is basically a best case scenario of 9-7, maybe 10-6 where we squeak into the playoffs, maybe win a WC game and then get bombed out again in the divisional round.

We were told this team was SB caliber. They clearly are not.

But what is truly lost is any real future as long as Jerry is pulling the strings. Yesterday, he said that he was disappointed. But we've heard that before over and over and over. What I want to know is he really, truly surprised by what he sees?

If the answer to that question is yes, then he's a bigger fool than I ever imagined and this franchise is FUBAR'd. What we have seen yesterday and, frankly, the last three weeks isn't anything out of the norm for this franchise under Garrett. The hallmark of Garrett's run has been inconsistency.......... year to year, game to game. And it's bubbling up again.

Jerry has no one to blame but himself if this thing craters. The warning signs had been there for years with this guy and he choose to defend him, protect him, make excuses for him. Now surely people are going to cite last year and 3-5 and how we turned it around. But did we? We won a bad division and got owned again in the divisional round. Is that the ceiling now? Is that the marker for success? It shouldn't be but I suspect if we do somehow get to 9 wins, the excuses will flow like we've never seen before from certain fans, and sadly, maybe Jerry.

In terms of the actual team right now, I have no idea what has happened with the offense. I can't really believe Garrett has taken over the offense and dictated things to Moore, but the number of people in the media that watched the game and said the creativity is missing from the first three games is depressing. I saw one stat we ran 17 times on first down for less than 3 ypc. That screams Garrett. So what the heck is going on?

Defensively, Richard isn't the answer. That's obvious. Teams have figured out the Legion of Boom style defense. Teams simply just rip apart our soft zones. And when you add in the fact we have zero pass rush, either from the outside (other than a random speed rush from Quinn), and ZERO pass rush from the interior, the defense is what it is. Porous. They have talent limitations (looking at you S and DT) and they have coaching limitations. If there was a way to crap can the entire defensive staff right now and start over midseason, I would do it. But we are stuck. And what you see from this defense is what you get............ which is basically the 2014 and 2016 defenses again.............not very good.

Good post.

Offense is dealing with injuries and Connor Williams. OLine is struggling. Cooper and Cobb being out removes all of their receiving threats. Witten can’t do anything but run 2yds and turn around. Use Jarwin more but Garrett wont take his broski out.

Defensively the Dline is a major problem. Zero pass rush and very little push against the run game. Throw in some bad LB/DB play and Jeff Heath being a liability at safety.

And coaching, obviously an issue here. I think we’re lucky this team is still in it. Like you said, they’ll probably squeak in at 9-7 or 10-6. I’m really hoping they’ll be injury free and be on a winning streak come playoff time. It’s their only shot to make any noise in December.

Good post Sydla

The sad part of this it will not change anytime soon as long as JJ and his son call the shots. the organization's culture and its structure is not made for winning no matter who you bring in.

Individually this team is a juggernaut.

Team wise and coaching, they are a 4-6 win team and it sucks.

Yep. Can’t wait for Garrett to be fired and then we go out and sign a Lovie Smith, Norv Turner etc

The players have no respect for anyone else they know they can talk to their buddy JJ anytime they want.

For whatever reason, the Cowboys are horrible at drafting for depth of the lines in comparison to other teams. Add in bad and outdated scheming and it's a recipe for disaster if even one starter gets injured. With all of the current injuries, it is worse than disaster.

You want to chuckle at this but deep down, you know it's probably true.

They'll take some big swings at some big names, they won't want to the job and he'll end up with a retread or a guy that probably shouldn't be a NFL coach like Brian Kelly out of ND.

I disagree. All is lost. Watching the front office kowtow to Garrett and Dak at every opportunity shows me that either their priorities are something other than winning, or they are too stupid/arrogant to realize they’re wrong.

The Jones family is slowly but surely turning me away. I can’t imagine spending any time watching pro football in the future if Dallas commits to JG and Dak.

You're right, all is not lost, not for me. Because I've stopped living and dying with this dumpster fire years ago. I used to lose my S*** but now I just shake my head and get frustrated, knowing that after 45 years of being a fan I might have seen the best times for being a Cowboy fan and that we have slipped into mediocrity for many years to come. We should be 5-1 right now but we lose to coachs, not QBs. There is NO excuse for losing to a backup QB in NO. I don't care if it is in their place or not. I can tolerated losing to Rodgers, dude just has our number for some reason but again, we lose to better coaches, NOT better talent. That is so GD painfully obvious to anyone paying attention. Garrett and most of this staff should have been gone long ago. Linehan should never have been brought in nor should marinelli. They were both losers before they came to Dallas and nothing changed. Then we promote a guy to OC with zero experience and watch Greg Williams bend him over for a good ole fashion prison rape.

Im with you. I used to be pumped for Sunday’s. Grilling, jerseys, super excited. If we lost I would be upset a few days

Now the TV is background noise, the jerseys collect dust and I couldn’t care less if we lose or win.

With this defense and O line, we're going nowhere. It is what it is, hopefully we can pull out some wins. But, when your QB only has 1.3 seconds to throw and your defense can't make any stops it's not going to go well. It actually amazes me Elliott put up any yards.
