Just to be clear, at least one of us critical of the pick... meeeeeee... is not disappointed to get the player, but disappointed in picking him #19... can't possibly know what options for trading down were and weren't on the table, but in terms of value, we seemingly should've been able to do better.

Exactly. People will come around on this pick.Travis Frederick says hello.
We don't know if Jerry got any offers for 19, so please don't make any assumptions. Teams practically NEVER actively try to trade out of picks. That is a great way to show how desperate you are and guarantees that you get poor value in return. Yeah, I think Vander Esch was slightly over drafted, but I've seen him as highly mocked as #14 and he is considered to be by many an ascending player. I doubt he gets out of the 1st round if the Cowboys don't take him at 19.Just to be clear, at least one of us critical of the pick... meeeeeee... is not disappointed to get the player, but disappointed in picking him #19... can't possibly know what options for trading down were and weren't on the table, but in terms of value, we seemingly should've been able to do better.
Self-evident that the FO thought he was their best option. And I have to admit that they could prove to be right about that.
Self-evident that I feel he was not the best option at 19. And I'm entitled to that opinion, of course, just as others are entitled to think differently.
Supporting my opinion is the point that taking a sample of draft websites popular enough to show up in a google search, relatively few... very few... have the guy as their #19 ranked player (overall) or better, and more than half don't have him in their top 25.
So, at least, it's not some wild hair-brained idea to suggest we maybe could have gotten better value.
And I continue to hold out hope that maybe we can still get a player more commonly valued higher than LVE on Day 2, which would have a drastic effect on my assessment of this draft.
By all accounts he's a coachable, instinctual, ascending talent with a high motor, play speed and wraps guys up with some pop in his pads. Yeah, he needs to work on some technique stuff, but I think the kid still has the chance to be a special player. For what it's worth, Mayock called him the best zone drop and cover prospect since Luke KeuckleyAt first I wasn't thrilled with the pick but after sleeping on it I am fine with it. Here is what I like about him:
Athleticism
Very good instincts ( can't teach this)
High character and work ethic
Able to cover TE and RB.
Here are my concerns:
Toughness
Has trouble getting off blocks sometimes (hopefully that can improve)
Hopefully the concerns can be easily corrected. I am not worried about his medical because I feel they were blown way out of proportion. He has been compare to Urlacher, Karlos Danby, Sean Lee, Rolando McClain. I would be happy if he is anyone of them. What I hope he is not is anothe Barbie.
His play reminds me of Bosworth @OU
