2018 -
  • $2.5M Signing Bonus,
  • $2.5M base salary,
  • $1M 46-man roster bonuses ($625K LTBE) - Since Hurns only played in 10 games in 2017, only $625K of the roster bonuses are "likely to be earned."
  • 2018 CAP hit - $1.25M SB + $2.5M Sal + 0.625M RB = $4.375M
  • Cowboys have option for 2nd year that must be exercised by final annual league year
2019 - (Option year)
  • $4M base salary
  • $1M 46-man roster bonuses
  • $0.5M 75% of snaps - performance bonus
  • $0.5M 85% of snaps - performance bonus
  • 2019 CAP hit - $1.25M SB + $4M Sal = $5.25M
  • Additional possible salary CAP hits
    • up to $375K for 2018 roster bonuses ($62.5K for each game more than 10 games played)
    • up to $1M for LTBE roster bonuses based on # of games played in 2018
    • $0.5M if Hurns played more than 75% of snaps in 2018
    • $0.5M if Hurns played more than 85% of snaps in 2018
  • Max 2019 Salary CAP hit of $5.25M + $2.375M if Hurns plays all games and 85% of snaps in 2018 = $7.625M
  • 2020 CAP hit for bonuses earned in 2019 but not counted as LTBE bonuses in 2019 Salary CAP
Here is how to interpret this contract:
  • Cole Beasley is on the trading table
  • One of Dez Bryant or Terrance Williams is on the trading table
  • The Cowboys can still draft a rookie WR, and if he earns the starting job opposite an existing Cowboys WR, then the Cowboys can opt out of the Hurns contract.
  • The Cowboys could conceivably have a starting WR pair of Hurns and a rookie in 2019, and all three of the Cowboys incumbent receivers could be gone.
  • If Bryant bounces back with a big year, the Cowboys can keep Bryant and Hurns, or Bryant and a rookie WR in 2019

Thats a VERY friendly team contract...

Let the speculation run wild with all that flexbility we now have

No to mention we have what, ten picks already? Trading back for more picks doesn't sound prudent to me. There will be a difference maker there at 19.

We have only 3 picks in the first 3 rounds. Everything else is a crap shoot. Also, throwing in Beasley in the trade (instead of simply releasing him) gives the Patriots more incentive to let go of that 2nd round pick, and creates $3.25M more in CAP space for the Cowboys - CAP space they need if they trade Williams, plus two 2nd round picks to Seattle for S Earl Thomas.

If the patriots want to make that trade that is what they would have to give up. The question is why would the Cowboys want to move down?

10 picks aren’t making the roster. There’s already too much youth on the roster as is. I expect them to move around some this draft or they will just be wasting picks on players who won’t make the team anyways.

I wouldn't rule out moving up and I wouldn't rule out trading away the picks for a round higher next year. Works for the patriots.

One more thing..

Since Hurns is primarily an outside receiver I think it’s more accurate to say...

Williams is on the trade table.

Bease or Dez is on the trade table.

I would think Beasley would be fairly safe since he has shown the most chemistry with Dak...I think Williams is more of a trade option.

I expect them to move up. Maybe not in the 1st, but anything after that is fair game.

If we trade 2 second round picks to Seattle it would be monumentally stupid

He's a one year rental asking for 11 mill/yr

The most I'd trade them is one third if and only if Thomas signs for 3-4 years at 7-8 mill/year

Otherwise no thanx
If it were me I'd go after Tre Boston

I'm up for trading UP this year.
In fact maybe for what the Pat's do. Trade a 4th for a 3rd next year. A 6th for a 5th next year....
We dont need 10 picks....

Trade possibility - Cowboys trade #19 pick and WR Cole Beasley to New England Patriots for picks 31 & 63.
Jumbo, hope you are well dude...cant say i agree here and i follow the logic with the cap space play and the fact that beasley is done after this year with us since we have multiple replacement options...

I just don't like getting away from the high teens in the draft. From everything i have heard and read, outside of the top 15-20 picks the talent seems to flatline through the 40s....that being the case i really want to maximize the opportunity to get an impact player at 19. Now, if the board looks good and guys are falling then that is a different story but no way would i move out of 19 ahead of time.

Also, not really ready to part with Beasley just to save 3.5 MM on his contract unless we are getting something out of it....and the way the picks lay out it is a wash.

That is one of the worst trades I have ever seen

Since the FO almost lost TFred to move back 13 spots and only got 74(TWill)
