Alright Plumbers, I Have A Problem

I have this little shelf thing above my toilet, I'm sure you've all seen them.

Anyway, last week a razor fell off the shelf and landed in such a direction that it went directly down, out of site and gone.

I thought all was well and it just went through but the toilet is not flushing properly. I'm afraid a hefty meal could likely close the thing off.

I don't want to take the toilet off because then I have to get a wax ring, make sure I line it up right, yadda, yadda. I've seen it done and helped change a few toilets out but I've never done it myself and don't want to try.

I've looked online and someone suggested a "closet auger"........I guess.

Haven't tried it yet but it's looking like I will need to soon.

Any suggestions?

Turn off the water to the tank. Flush the toilet. When the bowl is almost empty, try to see if you can reach it with your fingers. It may be wedged in the crook and the toilet paper and "stuff" could be clogging it up. If you can't reach it, try a wire hanger and try to grab it and loosen it so you can pull it out.

If that doesn't work and you are the do it yourself type, you are going to have to take the toilet off to find the razor.

I had the exact same thing happen in my kids bathroom a few months ago. They dropped a hairspray cap into the toilet and that's what happened.

Also, if you do it yourself make sure you get the bees wax ring. Takes a bit longer to set but it is a better seal.

Put a magnet on the end of a coat hanger and work it into the trap. It should attach to the razor blade and pull it back.

Make sure the magnet is secure on there, you don't want to add it to the clog.

If you have a mirror on an antenna wand you can use it to see the blade first. Just a thought.

It might be something else causing the problem. IMO a razor blade should go right on through. If you can search for my thread in this forum about plumbing it has a lot of helpful hints.

I had a self cleaning Braun. It sucked.

Toilet still clogged.

Tried the auger and no improvement. Nothin came up.

I don't think it is clogged. I think you have calcium on the jets under the rim. Fill a bucket with water and pour it in the bowl. If it flushes real fast that isn't your problem. I think your problem may be calcium deposits in the jests under the rum. You can see them with a mirror. To clean them pour CLR In the tank and spray it up under the rim.

The bowl looks to fill just fine when flushed. I don't know if that means anything. I suppose there could be partial clogs in certain spots, disturbing the flow.

Let me clarify, you dropped your razor into the toilet, not just a razor blade?
A blade would just go down, you wouldn't need to worry about it. It is a very easy fix but you do need to take the toilet off. Taking one off is one of the simplest things you will ever do. Turn the water off, flush the toilet. Disconnect the water line. Two screws hold the toilet to the floor. After disconnecting them, lift the toilet.

You will need:
Plumbers tape
A new O-Ring....wax ring (Bee's wax is best)
Two toilet set screws (the old ones are probably corroded)

Caution:
Toilets are fragile.
