...and the Cowboys have a total of eight SB titles - two of them since Jimmy.

Jerry and Jimmy work things our and Jimmy stays until at least 1996, maybe wins an additional SB. The atmosphere is such that Bill Parcells or coach of similar caliber follows Johnson. The result is other than 2-3 years of rebuilding at the turn of the century, the Cowboys are contending for at least the NFC championship in most of the last twenty years.

The result is after several coaches and more titles, Jerry gets his due as being the constant over the past quarter century. He is hated for the success, but respected.

Johnson probably still leaves. He was ready to go. He never stayed at any one place more than 5 seasons during his coaching(assistant and head) career. Plus he would not be able to control Emmitt pulling his hamstring late in 1994 or Erik Williams getting hurt in a car accident.

What I like about your alternative history is that Jerry is credited with being one of the best owners in history; is hated for his success, but is well respected.

I actually wish that for Jerry and the Jones family. We are, after all, all Cowboys fans.

But alas. It was not to be.

Its hard to believe, but Jerry was not satisfied with steering this franchise to the Greatest Dynasty the NFL has ever known. Instead, he wanted credit as a football guy in charge of football operations, not simply as the guy who rescued the Cowboys from its late 80s nose-dive and put them back on top.

In an alternate universe.

1. All the talk about jimmy "wanting" to leave is exposed = bs

2. We see a front page two consecutive year that read respectively
a.) Dallas cowboys first nfl team to three peat as SB champions
b.) Dallas cowboys soar to four straight SB championships
c.) Cowboys own the 90's with 5 straight SB wins

3. Jerry runs day to day photography sessions finding different ways to pose all 8 Super Bowl trophies.

Let's put it this way. Cowboys haven't won SB in almost 20 years and I still talk smack to other fans. Minimalized and ridicule their accomplishments or lack thereof.

CAN
YOU
IMAGINE

IF

what I just posted was true. I would be unbearable. Lmao

You're right. It would be unbearable.....for them. We went from 77 to 92 between SBs before and that was a long time. Didn't expect it to take this long again.

You know what. I didn't go back far enough in my alternate universe.

We win 2 vs stealers in 70s and that one back from colts. Lol

Throw in a couple for Danny White.

It's not nice to tease.

What could have been is better than what could never be at all....

Wait is that true?? Lol

In that scenario, people would post on CowboysZone that Jimmy left in 1999 because Jerry sucks and wanted Super Bowls himself instead of the five straight they just won. Doom and gloom, everything sucks, if we can't win 10 championships then we suck. Etc.

By 1996 it has become obvious that being away from college football has taken away the edge Jimmy had on drafting and still stung by his refusal to sign Deion, fans begin to turn on Jimmy and blame him for back to back losses to the 49ers in the 94-95 NFC Championship games. At the end of the 1996 season with his staff being picked apart and a 42-17 beat down by the up and coming Packers Jimmy throws in the towel and retires despite an 11-5 record when Jerry refuses to trade Emmitt Smith to try and load up on draft picks again. He does recommend Dave Wannstedt for the HC job and the Cowboys bring him back and make the playoffs 2 more times on what is a steady decline in talent with aging players and free agency bringing the Cowboys down to size. Wannstedt retires in 2000 with a .500 overall record and 1 playoff win. Soon after that Jerry announces he has sold the team to Ren Zhengfei a powerful Chinese businessman that is a telecom giant in China with deep military ties in the Peoples Liberation Army. After Jerry moves to China and opens up a chain of Waffle Houses on Chinese military bases the deal comes under scrutiny and Ren is relieved of ownership and the NFL appoints a board to find a new owner as the team is tied up in court for the next 6 years Jim Irsay is appointed temporary chief of football operations and immediately hires Bill Parcells. After Parcells retires and Sean Payton takes his place the Cowboys finally get their 5th and 6th SB titles becoming the first team in NFL history to win a title without an owner.

Jerry Jones is forever hated by most of the fan base for hanging on to JImmy Johnson too long, refusing to allow him to trade Emmitt Smith and for wrecking the once proud franchise. Every year Texans gather near the Mexican border to burn Jerry in effigy in what comes to be known as burning man south.

Not going to pen my own alternate history, but briefly, I don't think anything really changes. I think we still lose to the 49ers in '94 and I don't think we would have been able to hold off the Packers ascension either. Jimmy still leaves 1-3 seasons later, and of course Jerry is still with us today. There would be some ripples (maybe Switzer stepped on a butterfly somewhere) but reality would be largely unchanged, IMO.

Interesting. I'd never thought of that before - If Jimmy had stayed, would the Cowboys still have gotten Deion Sanders?

And after they made peace they adopted me and I grows up to rename the stadium "Gimme Stadium -- Home of the Fighting Idiots" and AT&T pays me so much money I give it to world peace and freedom in places like Arizona, Alabama and Ukraine.
https://encrypted-tbn0.***NOT-ALLOWED***/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR7KbVPitGvVEaqRuaGby-oa36O-2mlq4gIOs-mts_HM6CG_2cIikfhsycI offer the stadium free to all deserving high school football teams that want to play the state chamionship there and they sign letters of intents to play for the Cowboys if they are good enough. If not then I gift them jobs as cleaners at the stadium and parking attendants. Then they give me the award for the toppermost of the poppermost sons of owners and life is so swell. Yes, that is my dream.

I doubt it but he might could've improved the defense in other ways since defense was his thing. I remember when he was still on Fox before he went to Miami he said he wouldn't let Terrell Buckley (who was at GB at the time) cover the bench for him but Buckley went to the Dolphins the year before Jimmy so he was kinda stuck with him and he managed to get a couple real good seasons out of him. He led the league in INT return yards the first year Jimmy was there and had his 2 best years playing for Jimmy. Then on the other hand Jimmy might have been all in on Dieon at that point.

If you think a Jimmy. Johnson- led Cowboys squad blows up and gives up 21 points in the first 12 minutes of the NFC Title game, yes the NFC title game, a game where he once said "put in in three inch headlines" game then you didn't really watch the Jimmy. Johnson-led team in the 90s.

No way we go down like that.
