Alternative FA/Draft Plan

With JPP/Jones/Ingram/Berry/Johnson getting franchised, we still have some options.

If we can get Perry, then that would be a key sign. If we get Perry, then we can nail a CB like Bouye or Prince and we have the D overhaul. Draft BPA and hopefully get several DEs and a CB in the group.

If no Perry, the best way may be to trade up to get a better chance to get a DE worthy of a 1st round pick.
If we are going to waste draft picks to trade up, then some of the other needs can be met by FA.
CB - FA (Bouye, Prince) and draft
SS - FA like Wilcox/Church
RT - FA or draft
WR - FA or draft
DE - draft additional DEs with upside potential.

Defense - Sign a top CB like Bouye (or Carr AND Mo). Resign one of Wilcox or Church.
Offense - If you cannot fix the defense totally, we would have to outscore the other team. So eliminate any weakness in the offense by upgrading RT and WR. That would be cheaper than defense fixes. Offensive players do not appear to be getting tagged much. So we could nail a RT like Wagner ($10M AAV?) and/or WR like Pryor (how much?). Then the draft could almost be entirely devoted to the defense. Trade up as much as needed to get a DE worthy of 1st round grade. Then pick as many CBs and DEs as possible with upside.

Nick Perry is pretty much an OLB or pass rush specialist at DE. I don't see him as an every down player at DE.

I would be pissed if we picked a TE.
But would understand a RT If the DE position has been addressed.

I expect we'll get a TE at some point in the first four rounds. It was pretty clear that we lost something when after Swaim was out and we no longer had blocking from the position. Also this is very likely Witten's last year

just not 1st 2 rounds...

You know that OLB in a 3-4 is not really the same as OLB in a 4-3, right?

sure, he is bigger but he can cover if needs be and blitz - which is what matters.
ware played both 3-4 lb and 4-3 de...
