The last Cowboys game I went to was the 1973 NFC Championship loss to the Vikings. It was one of only two games I've been to, the other one being a '72 or '73 loss to the Giants. It sucked being a kid and for some reason always seeing the Cowboys lose whenever I went to a game, even though they had a great team back then. The same thing happened with several Texas Rangers games. We went to five games in a one-month period, ALL of which they lost.
The curse continued for YEARS with other teams. No matter what team I went to see and root for, they lost. In the late 90s/early 2000s, I was living in Denver and rooting for the Colorado Avalanche hockey team. They had a great team at the time, one that won the Cup in '96 and '01. However, between 99 and 00, I went to 8 games, and the team lost EVERY single one.
The curse was finally broken in 2001. I took a big risk by going to an Avalanche playoff game against the LA Kings. I didn't even have a ticket. I had to buy one from a scalper. However, they won! The curse was broken. However, that remains the only victory by a pro team I've ever rooted for in person.
I don't live anywhere near Texas. I have family in the Dallas area. I've thought of going down for a visit and catching a game, but given my history, I'm wary. Do you blame me?
