Am I the only one who thinks we are fine at DT

yup

I think we draft S Williams

Kiffen needs a young guy that can play the middle

Williams is a big, powerful defensive tackle who nonetheless can move with speed. He’s extremely quick off of the ball—consistently the first person off of the snap at UNC—despite his 6’3’’, 313-pound frame.

What makes Williams so valuable as a 4-3 tackle in Monte Kiffin’s scheme is that he can play either the one-technique or the three-technique, giving the team flexibility with other defenders

Seems more and more likely that it will be Sly Williams.

Maybe Richardson if he falls to us.

I'll be happy with either.

Williams is far from the only DT that can play both though. Richardson could likely as well and Logan in the later rounds could also. But when you get an exceptional athlete it's best if they can put the guy at the 3 technique since it puts the him in (1 on 1) position to disrupt the offense.

If the pick is Williams, then I will feel good about that only because we really should have as good intel as possible on this player. Butch coached him and knows exactly what the kid is so I'm guessing that we would get the straight dope on him and if we are taking him over Richardson or another valued target, then that would make me believe that Butch has given us a very good report on him. That would go a long way toward disproving the stories by more then just a few scouts who say he dogs it.

Richardson is a 3Tech only IMO. He doesn't anchor nearly well enough to play the 1 IMO.

Am I the only one who thinks we are fine at DT ? I think we are solid and I think our depth is good . I do think we could use a DE for depth but other than that I don't see all the hype for all these DL .

Ratliff - hatcher
Crawford-lissemore
Price

Looks solid to me . Hatcher will be a FA next year so I say draft a DT next year instead . Let's see what Crawford and lissemore can do in this scheme .

The wild card is Ratliff. IMO there isnt a DT in this draft that would outplay a healthy ratliff or hatcher. Hatcher arrived last yr. guy was unblockable twards the end of the yr. He just needs to learn to keep his hands away from qbs heads

I'm more worried about DE than DT.

Seriously, what do we have behind Ware and Spencer?

Crawford?

Yikes!

Either Crawford or we probably kick Hatcher back out to DE in an emergency situation.

While not preferable, its doable.

DT has the potential to be a real strength of this team... If Ratliff is healthy, he is still a very good player. Hatcher has been on the rise the past couple of years. We have an interesting young player in Crawford. Lissemore is a solid rotation piece. And if Price is recovered, he is a talented prospect.

Of course, there are "what ifs" in that... and by no means is any of that guaranteed... but the potential is there for it to be a very solid unit.

I'm honestly more worried about the DE position. We literally have nothing behind Ware and Spencer. And we desperately need another DE who can provide some breathers for Ware and Spencer.

I'm not saying we shouldn't take another DT if the value is there, I'd certainly like to add another talented guy to the mix.... and would love to see Richardson in Dallas... but I am worried about the depth at DE moreso.

Both end and tackle need to be addressed. The dline is the oldest unit on the team.

I watched another of Williams 2012 games earlier today. They played him at 1-tech, 3-tech, and nose in 3-man lines. As a 3-tech, he was consistently in the backfield pretty quickly. He just blew by guards.

Sure, he did, at DE in a 3-4. He hasn't proven he can play DT in a 4-3 on a full time basis.

I really like Richardson too, but Broaddus said the team like Vaccaro over Richardson.

I don't see it myself, but take it for what it is worth.

Defensive tackle is one of the easiest positions to fill. Waste of a first round pick.

We need help at defensive tackle. It's not as bad as the interior o-line,but we do need help there. If we ignore it,it will become as bad as the interior o-line.

I feel better about it than I do the offensive line, but if a DT is the best player when we pick at No. 18, I'm definitely fine with upgrading the defensive line because we don't know how things will turn out this year.

We certainly didn't know we were going to essentially lose Ratliff for a year and Lissemore for part of a year.

As long as we pick the best player from defensive line, offensive line and safety, I'll be fine with the first-round pick. Now, in the second round, I want us to do what it takes to get an OL if we didn't in the first. I don't like Dallas' draft history with offensive linemen after the second round.

Yes, you can guess the result of most plays based on where he is aligned pre-snap. If he is on the Guards outside shoulder, he normally gets into the backfield very quickly.

No way. Rat is not only injury prone, he hasn't made a play in 3 years. I was hoping the DUI would be the last straw with him. :banghead:
