Amar'e Stoudemire has exercised the early termination option in his contract, his agent, Happy Walters, confirmed to SI.com. Stoudmire was set to earn $17.6 million in the final year of his contract with the Suns. Walters met with Suns owner Robert Sarver and head coach Alvin Gentry in Los Angeles on Tuesday in an effort to work out an agreement. Sarver's unwillingness to offer a six-year, max deal is reportedly a major obstacle in negotiations, though both sides are expected to continue to talk this week.

Actually after crunching the numbers PHX actually would have to pay him more if he's a free agent versus extending his contract & it appears that they're deciding whether to "max" him out or pursue a cheaper route a la David Lee.

Actually just heard that negotiations between Stoudemire and Phoenix have ceased - looks like he's on the move. Favorites are Chicago, Miami, and Houston, who tried really hard to get him at the trade deadline.

At least David Lee isn't injury prone. I like David Lee, he is genuinely a good person. His only issue is he isn't a very good defensive player. He can block shots, but gets owned much more often. He is like a poor man's Dirk. (poor mans Dirk, because he can't shoot like Dirk)

I kinda figured that was gonna happen...I think they're going the cheap route in PHX...and not having a real GM doesn't help either!

The Knicks with Lebron would be a good choice. The Knicks are the only team that can openly afford two max contracts I believe.

Link stating as much

Of course that would just give the Knicks two max players that do not have the drive to win a championship.

I really like that idea, but I do pause at the idea of having one big man with bad feet and another with bad knees.

Amare Stoudemire is a huge question mark. He only plays hard with the ball in his hands and he disappears on defense.

And he cries rivers.

His d has gotten better (which isn't really saying much) with a true center playing beside him. His effort on the glass is what used to piss me off watching Suns' games. I think if he leaves PHX he's going to realize how much better Nash made him with those insane, pinpoint passes he was the recipient of every game!
