Amari Cooper Interview

I didn’t see this posted and thought it was interesting. They touch on targets, Moore, contract negotiations and more.

_________

Catch This Fade: Your talent clearly shined through as soon as you arrived in Dallas. It’s my theory that a QB and WR really build their chemistry over an off-season, especially when it comes to timing routes. How much of your actual repertoire were you able to unleash with Dallas last year?
Amari Cooper: That’s a good question. With the timing routes, it was more mental.. so I had to kind of watch how he threw certain routes on film and kind of adjust my game to it. As opposed to actually doing it and getting a lot of repetitions in with those timing routes, because I didn’t have the opportunity to do it.

CTF: I can only imagine that once you guys get into the offseason you’ll be able to work together so those timing routes will be something that absolutely explodes in 2019.
Cooper: I definitely agree. I think once we have more repetition under our belt we’ll be more lethal than we were last season. It can only go up from here

Love a player doing his homework and actually using his football smarts.

Interviewer: "Amari, Kellen Moore was named offensive coordinator. What do you think about that?"

Cooper: "Who?"

Actually he didn't know he was named untold he was told on espn interview.

"Disappearing" in games isn't necessarily all on him. Double teams, poor O-line play, and QB play usually have something to do with that as well.

He runs excellent routes, and gets open most of the time....okay, once in a while he'll let the ball bounce off his helmet...:muttley:........but he's the best WR we've had in a long time, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Stop talks JG to this dude, he's masquerading as someone who know football.

Garrett will find a way to slow you down Coop.

He'll make Cooper run go routes 90% of the time like JG did with Dez.

Or take snaps away from Cooper and put Brown in because he's a better run blocker.

Let's see, if Dez knew more than go routes or slants he would've ran more. The fact Cooper has already shown his in depth route ability and has ran more than go routes makes your statement look foolish.

So, why didn’t they do that in the 11 games Cooper has already played with Dallas.

I don’t think it’s fair to use his very good rookie season.

Regardless. During his sophomore season, where he didn’t have thd drops...that was by far Carr’s best season. He hasn’t been the same since his injury and his numbers dropped off. Crabtree had a lower catch percentage than Cooper last season so if that is a high level...what is Cooper?

You can’t have your cake and eat it too. You can’t say “everyone was playing at a high level” when they clearly won’t in the main season you’re using for comparasion.

Colts were the one game we could’ve comfortably afforded to lose.

Defense had more to do with the Bucs loss than the offense. The Eagles game basically sealed the division for us and then Commanders win put us in the drivers seat.

In retrospect, yes...it would’ve been nice if his best performance was against the Rams. Michael Thomas has 4 catches for 36 yards the next week so obviously those things happen. Receivers being productive is a result of several different variables.

It’s not optimistic to believe he can be better when he actually practices with his QB. What he did this season without practice is phenomenal. It’s also not a stretch to believe a 24 year old receiver can hit his prime during his 4th season.

We literally did not overpay for him. Other teams were offering a second and change, Oakland valued him as a 3rd. You probably still think we overpaid for Travis Frederick as well. Golden Tate is 30 years old and the Eagles gave up a 3rd for 9 games with him.

Carr's performance didn't impact any other players in terms of drops - again, I'm not entirely sure what is a struggle here, he was near HISTORICALLY BAD when it came to drops. This is not on the QB, not on the line, not on any other receiver - IT'S ON COOPER. Once his rookie season could have been an outlier, twice out of his four year career is a huge red flag. It tells you he loses focus, and have you been on the Raiders forum at all? This place seems to have this weird thought process that Cooper is just this real quiet guy. That's not what Raiders fans view him as, they actually view him as a guy who gives less than 100% when things are down. Some going so far as calling him a quitter.

...and Cooper didn't show up against Tampa either. He had 4 catches for 20 yards for 5 yards a catch average. Come on. He's inconsistent.

> We literally did not overpay for him

We gave up a first round pick for a WR that, at the highest, had someone offering a second for a WR that led the leagues twice in 4 years. This is BEFORE even getting a contract, yes, yes we "overpaid" for him. Cooper has not consistently played like a #1 in this league. He was viewed as a #2 in Oakland that didn't reach his potential, which is why they shipped his butt out of there.
