Anybody living around Amarillo,

has anyone tried the 72 ounce big Texan steak challenge?

Me and a couple friends are gonna drive outthere this weekend and try it after we saw the man v. Food episode featuring it. Just wanted to see if anyone had any sort of experience with it :D

"Theres nothing but gristle and fat on that plate"

I live in Amarillo but I've never tried the challenge.

I could probably eat the steak no problem but you also have to eat the roll, potato, salad, and I believe a shrimp cocktail.

If I'm not mistaken, you don't have to eat the fat and gristle of the steak. You cut it off and there is a judge to make sure that is all it is.

I can tell you the Big Texan steaks are very good though. It's just so far from where I live I don't get over there much.

A couple of friends and I.... ;)

On a side note, Coyote Bluff, the hamburger joint he went to in the show, does have excellent burgers. The Burger from Hell is a joke as far as being hot, but it tastes great. The place is a real dive but very good food.

Yep... all that and the dessert I think as well... and you cannot leave the table at any time during the hour, so lay off the tea...

Saw a guy try it last time I was there... he failed miserably...

Yeah, the steaks at Big Texan are really, really good. I never did the challenge, no way little ole me could handle that, but I did have a friend in my dorm when I was at West Texas State (now A&M) in Canyon that did. He did it TWICE. Not in the same sitting, of course.

The only time I've ever been there we saw three guys try it. One of em was going when we got there, and we saw him finish everything. The other two started after we left and we didn't see them finish.

No way could I do it. But the cool thing is seeing the list of all the people that have done it. Someone did in in like 8 minutes, and there was some 80+ year old lady who finished it.

Dont forget, you have to finish the sides as well. All in less then an hour...

I could do it if they let me have extra steak and rolls (with honey butter please) instead of the other crap. Salad? No. Give me some real food.

I lived here 9 years now and never even heard of Coyote Bluff until the show.

But I've been to the Stockyard Cafe a few times and they are really good. They showed the chicken fried steak, which is good, but their green chili cheese burger is freaking awsome.

On a side note they also serve rattlesnake at the Big Texan (seasonal).

Let us know when you're gonna be there so we can watch you on their live webcam

Wow, I can't believe you haven't been there. You gotta check it out. Like I said though, it is a dive so be prepared. It is just South of I-40 on Grand if you don't know.

I like the stockyards too I just never think to go out there.

We're leaving in about 45 minutes and its a two hour drive, then I will devour the entire thing.

Or, that's how I want it to play out haha.

Prayers are appreciated :D

I have always wanted to try it, but I can't do the shrimp cocktail so I will never try.
