I don’t intend this thread to be a gripe session on calls going against the Cowboys. I just don’t understand why the officiating has been so bad this season. I’m not talking just about the ‘Boys games, either.

I don’t watch a lot of games other than the Cowboys but it seems that in every game I do watch there have been problems. Take the Patriots game last night. How bad does an official have to be for the league office to have to call down to the field to get a spot right? The sequence during the Cowboys game with the late review that wiped out a delay of game penalty just blew me away. I’m not griping about the call (that seemed to be right after everything was explained) but why did it take so long to start the review? It just seems that the officials are ruining the flow and timing of the teams during the game.

I think the NFL needs to go to full-time, professional officials instead of these amateur part-time guys. Let the players set the tempo, not the officials.

Again, the refs need to be fined, or suspended or fired. When anyone is allowed to keep making mistakes, not improve, that person will continue to care less and less about his job, the rules, etc. Its like where I work alittle, and this person that does this other job, every week he keeps getting later and later to work. But nothing is done, so who is to blame. Allowing that person to get away with things with a lackluster attitude, is the problem just like the refs, allowing them to mess up with no discipline in place. While us fans wont say anything because some of us cant see the forest for the trees.

Yet, these refs are making 100,000 to 200,000 a season, which most people dont know. As long as commissioner goodell keeps trying to cover things up and kissee face mike periola vice president of officials does what he is doing with the refs the problem isnt going away.

As long as us fans allow that to continue, then you cant complain. Some fans wont say anything, so why should things change?

Once a delay of game is called on the offense a play should not be reviewable IMO - it should be just like a snap. That was the most ridiculous thing. A bad call is no excuse for not getting the next play off in time. They pretty much just waited for a review by waiting out the clock and got rewarded for it.

Just think about this;
1. Blown call in the patriot game on a critical pass for first down, where player had his foot down.
2. Green Bay allowed an extra challenge flag, which mike p.. says should have been thrown immediately with a penalty, again refs not knowing the rules.
3. 4 timeouts by cleveland in 2nd half
4. blown call againt tampa bay wr, a week ago
5. randel el moves the football for a first down while refs are talking
6. The patriot blunder you mentioned above
7. The booth not doing their job in cowboys Commander game, while refs throw penalty, then the league office has to call in to tell them the rules, while that took about 7 minutes to decide.

I posted another article earlier about blown calls by refs this year. Its not just the cowboys, the officiating is getting worse while goodell tries to cover things up.

Till fans stand up and let their voice be heard, why should anything change?

Start fining QB's for interceptions, RB's for fumbles, kickers for missed field goals, defensive players for missed tackles.

Officials are graded and can lose their jobs.

i dont mind the refs for making mistakes.....its human....i just wished they had the authority to over ride rules when it is a no brainer mistake they could easily fix for the good of the games outcome

I have been saying that for over 40 years now. This year has to be the worst in terms of the officials simply not knowing the rules or situations. I can understand a bad call at times because the game moves fast and you just can't see everything (just call what you actually see please!) but this is truly pathetic lately.

Throwing the challenge flag when you are out of challenges is the same as calling a timeout when you don't have any more. It is supposed to result in a penalty. A guy with possession of the ball on the ground who is touched by an opposing player is down by contact. Once a play has been run you cannot go back and review the previous play regardless if the ball had actually been snapped or not.

They are screwing up the yardage, the timing, the rules, the calls, everything and nothing seems to be happening to the guys who are most egregious in these issues.

The NFL needs to revamp the officiating from the top (NFL Head of Officials Mike Pereira) to the guys in the booth. By revamp read fire them all!

We need full-time, professional officials who are not doing this as a hobby but as a career. We also need a guy in charge of them that will actually hold them accountable and not make excuses for them because it "makes the league look bad" top call them out. Real disciplinary actions against officials who make too many errors or are not up to speed, beyond the "well you don't get to work the SB this year" crap they hand out now.

Pereira is a league shill whose main concern is the image of the league and not the integrity of the game.

And where is tough guy Roger Goodell in all of this? He is quick to hand out big fines and suspensions to players and assistant coaches but not to officials.

BAH! Don't get me started! :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

IMO the refs rely to much on replay to fix mistakes. They aren't sure so they make a call and rely on a coach to challenge the play.

Also a lot of good ones have retired recently so maybe their replacements aren't ready.

I can't defend this. Even though apparently the officials eventually got things right under the rules (which are screwed up), it was not handled right regarding the instant replay procedure. There is supposed to be a time limit for the play to be reviewed and a decision made and play resumed. The officials allowed the Commanders to hold things up way beyond that time limit and finally get a higher up official on the line to set things straight. That's NOT how replay is supposed to work.

As for the rule on that particular play, it's ridiculous that th Skins could be rewarded for not getting a play off and having a delay of game penalty. If they had a chance to run a play and screwed it up, then for the purpose of replay it should be treated as if a play had occurred.

If a team can use delay of game to prompt a replay without penalty, my question is if they can get another delay of game one after the other until the play in question is reviewed.

Suppose the Campbell sideline play pushed Washington out of field goal range and the first delay of game didn't result in a replay. Could they then take a second delay of game waiting for a replay? A third? And would they get all the yardage back if replay reversed the play?

What's the difference between punting from the 40 or the 50? Definitely not much when trying to challenge a play inside 2:00 when you supposedly aren't allowed to challenge a play.

Your right, it should be that way but as long as the rules say they have until the next snap to start a review, it is going to continue to happen. This needs to be changed NOW before more coaches take advantage of this loop hole.

I wouldn't be surprised if Danny Boy was the caller to the league office that got the spot moved back up. The Deadskins are notorious for complaining about calls going against them.
