A few years ago, late at night, bored, Felipe Rezes was flipping through channels when he stumbled across something novel: guys in helmets knocking each other down and chasing an oddly shaped ball. Now 14, Rezes has become a Dallas Cowboys nut and an enthusiastic convert to the small but fast-growing crew of Brazilians mad for Futebol Americano.

On a recent Saturday night, Rezes is wearing a grin and brandishing a camera on the sideline of a game between the Bulls FA, based in Porto Alegre – Brazil’s southernmost large city – and the Joinville Gladiators, from the neighbouring state to the north. The two play in the southern conference of the Liga Nacional de Futebol Americano, a second-tier league with 14 teams this season.

Not a surprise. Cowboys are the #1 favorite team in America for adults ages 30-64, Southerners, Blacks, and Hispanics.

I'd imagine that extend beyond the border all the way down into Mexico, Central, and South America.

Yes, because Hispanics are totally homogeneous throughout those areas. Culturally the U.S. Southwest, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina are identical.

Seems odd because a few years ago it seemed like the NFL was working to spread football into Mexico and further south.

Think they had a big game in Mexico City with the cowboys but the field was a muddy mess and some part time roster RB had a big game for the Cowboys..Lincoln someone.

Fast forward and it seems the NFL is hell bent on London and Europe and pretty much abandoned he South of the border games.

Viva la Brazil!

Wait, they speak Portuguese there. Is that still the same in Portuguese?

I know 2 people who coached in the Brazilian league last year. Like most places outside the U.S. the sport is growing exponentially.

See my posts on the Jags relocating to London (NFL section) for some of the reasons why the NFL is focused on Europe.

hell, one could argue Brazilians aren't Hispanic anyway given they speak Portuguese

Time to start scouring their country for a quarterback.

Just takes one...

American Football is a speck of dust on the world stage of sports as soccer rules the world.
