I am watching America's Game of the 1971 Cowboys and one thing came to my mind.

I would love for the Cowboys today to make Randy Gregory watch that program over and over again. Have him focus on both Bob Lilly and more importantly Duane Thomas. Duane Thomas was absolutely loaded with exceptional talent and he threw it all away. Lilly even states to Duane every time he sees him that he could have been the next Jim Brown.

The point is this: Randy Gregory has the opportunity to have a career like Bob Lilly (well Charles Haley), or he can have a career similar to Duane Thomas.

The choice is his.

(I know this applies to all rookies)

I watched the 77 Cowboys yesterday...so cool. And, agree with you. I would make the whole team, not just the rookies, watch all those teams in one day. Skip practice and watch.

However, there is another aspect of those teams that is still going on today. A lot of the older players are still helping out this new team in one way or the other.

Michael Irvin had a great idea a few years back of having every rookie make a trip to the Hall of Fame before they went to training camp to plant similar seeds in their heads. I believe the NFL did this for two years. Knowing the history, both good and bad, is important for any player to understand what legacies truly mean.

Different era. There was no ESPN or internet, along with miniscule pay compared to today. Athletes were much less full of themselves back then.
