I was sitting down watching the NFL Network's, America's Game (2001 New England Patriots) and remembering back when Tom Brady took over for an injured Drew Bledsoe. Just watching that team come together throughout that season, and hearing about coach Belichick's motivational ploys during the season made me forget about the Patriots actually cheating. Did they actually cheat, or did they realize that it takes all 22 men, offensively and defensively, being on the same page, to make a run at a championship? That was a special year for New England.

I'm envious to say the least. But that got me to thinking. Could this year's 2009 Dallas Cowboys, with "Son of a Bum" Phillips, make a serious run at a Super Bowl? Perhaps win a Super Bowl?

How did the story of the 2001 Patriots under Bill "evil genius" Belicheat make you ponder the fate of the 2009 Cowboys under Wade "13-3" "aw-shucks" Phillips? That's quite a jump. :laugh1:

You're talking to a die-hard Cowboy's fan... A die-hard football fan who cannot wait till it all starts. How is that a jump? What planet are you living on?

Not to come down on ya, but I am one of many who cannot wait till it all starts. The only reason I was talking about the Patriots was because I was envious of what I saw; how the 01' season turned out for the Pats. It was pretty cool with all the commentary from the various players like Lawyer Milloy and Tom Brady. That was Tom's first year, and you could see how he took control.

Just being a football fan in general. It was cool to watch. My only hope is that Tony Romo and the Cowboys find some consistency, heart, and a winning attitude that will hopefully propell them to the top.

they will, i don't think it will be this season but they will in the near future with a better HC. We have the players just not the coaching and motivation

There's a big difference between Wade Phillips and Bill Belichick, that's why its a jump. I'm a diehard Cowboys fan too, I'm a diehard football fan, and I also can't wait for the season to start.. but let's be real.

I've never bad-mouthed our coaching staff on our board but let's not pretend we have someone like BB on our staff. Garrett looked utterly confused the last 6-8 games last year. Yes, Wade Phillips is one hell of a defensive coach, but it was our defense that was run over and demolished the closing games of last season.

Can we win it all this year? Obviously we can, we have the talent to. Will we? Who knows. We play in, in my opinion, the toughest division in the league. We lost one of the greatest receivers of all time, regardless of his drops or drama. We improved in some areas.

It will be interesting to see, but let's not confuse us with the 2001 Patriots. We don't have anyone like Belichick, which is depressing.

Note: Maybe I sound so down on us because I'm tired of getting my heart shattered year in and year out. Really, really tired of it. I used to be an optimist and that has seemingly changed. It was my belief that Wade should have been fired after last season, but looks like he's getting another shot. If we don't get to the playoffs and win, there is ABSOLUTELY no reason to keep him around anymore. I'm not even sure how it can be debated. My only worry with that, however, is bringing in a guy who likes to run a 4-3.. that would be a huge, huge mistake.

I hope that Dallas can but there is an huge difference between how great a coach Bill is and the type of coach Wade is.
