To say the Cowboys' return to the playoffs had a favorable impact on TV ratings might be a bit of an understatement.

The NFL and Nielsen released their weekend ratings for this year's NFL wildcard games on Monday evening, and the numbers were paced by the Cowboys' Sunday afternoon win by a landslide. The 24-20 win against Detroit, aired on Fox, drew an average of 42.3 million viewers, making it the third-most watched wildcard game in league history.

Great ratings. I think it would have been higher and possibly broken the record if the Lions had even a average national following.

Wait and see what Sunday's rating will be between the Cowboys and Packers. Maybe the largest ever.

I am 100% certain the Cowboys - Packers game on Sunday will the highest rated divisional playoff game ever.

The only thing that might prevent it from setting the record is that the game is in the noon time slot. Will be interesting to see. Classic matchup.

It could be the highest viewed non Super Bowl NFL game of all time. I'm not kidding. Two storied franchises, the looming comparisons to an immortal game, the two largest fan bases in football, Lambeau Field, two MVP candidates, Packers 8-0 at home. Cowboys 8-0 on the road--

...other than that.

Could you imagine if the opponent were Chicago or New York? Jesus.

Did Cowboys-49ers in the NFC title games in the 1990s set playoff TV ratings records back then?

The 1982 Cowboys-49ers NFC Championship Game (68.7 million viewers on CBS) has the record by 10.7 million viewers over the next highest rated conference championship game, Cowboys-Packers in 1996 (58 million).

37 Million all the yahoos who watched and hoped for a Disaster waiting to happen.

Imagine the ratings on the Cowboys/Patriots superbowl...

Not only the Cowboys are the most watched; year after year, they are the #1 most valuable franchise in America. And these are the reasons why the Cowboys will always be America's Team.
