An attacking defense, but what about stopping the run?

If we're going to have an attacking defense, how will we focus on stopping the run with guys trying to get to the QB? Get up the field and attack, yet there's holes being left for RB'S to do what they do best against this defense, I hope we find some kind of middle ground! Please give your thoughts!

There are similarities with our new DC and Marinelli. Teams generally did not run wild on those teams. Its a stop the run on the way to the QB approach. I expect them to be solid vs the run, I'm more concerned about a consistent pass rush as they like to only rush 4 most of the time. We'll see.

The only thing we really know about our defense is Eberflus likes to rush 4 pass rushers and wants 7 guys in the secondary on third and long.

Unless Mazi magically improves dramatically, Cowboys will still have trouble stopping the run and rushing the passer.

DEs are great, but a qb with a quick release will cause Dallas problems, there's a certain amount of time it takes for any DE to get to the passer, we've seen so many times in the last couple of years the pass rusher ALMOST gets to the qb, only to see him zip a pass to a receiver or back. In this era, you need your interior DL to provide at least some pass rush in addition to the outside rush.

I'm still giving Mazi a chance, but he's running out of time to justify keeping him past his rookie contract...

They have to draft a huge, mean, running-stopping DT or they'll continue to get gashed by good running teams. I've given up on thinking they'll bring in a great FA DT.
Even if they draft who you want, it doesn't fix the o-line, etc. Fix one hole and two more will open up, you know they'll be injuries that will rob this team (Overshown, e.g.) of being a complete team.

Snakebit team....

The only thing any team ought to be focused on is being able to pressure the opposing QB while rushing only four.

Jerry’s fascination with taking corners early is a large part of why his teams will always be beat when it matters.

(sigh) i know I'm so tired out on hearing " Fast & Furious " ... we've done that bid since Marinelli,..to Quinn ..and now are we gonna get with the Eberflus era ?

- When are gonna finally have a DC that brings brawn, muscle and physicality..., that allows us to " Out-Physical " the opposition.

- Are we still in that same mode and code of " Stop the run on the way to the Passer ...?

Sorry i can't help but think it's Rob Marenilli 2.0 all over again.
Simple, ..very little blitzing,.. disguising.. or stunting... and alas " predictable ." Only plays at it's best with a run game and point lead .

Stop the run , win ball games or at least stay in the game. This should be the top priority as it was with Zimmer.

Run heavy teams will let our own attacking style work against us. Just let the guys play ball. Fundamental sound football. I don't care how we do it. Draft good players and see what they do well in camp. Let this dictate scheme tactics. Adapt to the talents we have.

you raise an excellent question, sir.

We've done that ( with good intention) with drafting first round Mazi Smith...drafting NT prospects like Quinton Bohanna,..John Ridgeway ..

- we've traded for cheap vet NTs such as Johnathan Hankins ... and we've used cheap, declining worn out vet NTs from Lindal Joseph, Jordan Phillips, Carlos Watkins, ,etc.

- But i'm not sold on just one guy, to do the job. We have to successfully operate as a unit in whole, That goes for the coach-scheme, the edge DEs and the LB unit.

- Yes, it starts up front, and in the trenches, .but this current LB does not encourage me that it will be better.
We've only one sole returning LB that its' likely to be counted upon so heavily ( Marist) Doesn't look like vet Hendricks will return, and i'm seeing Overshown likely out
another year in recovery mode.
