Apparently the franchise passed away after a 30 year illness.

This team has been a joke for a long, long time — “America’s team“ died almost 30 years ago. Nothing new here, just the same old never ending cycle of mediocrity.

It died the day Jerry ran Jimmy off. That not only robbed us of the undisputed best team ever with no legitimate counter argument, it destroyed the franchise for going on three decades and counting.

History will regard that as the worst decision in professional team sports history when it is all said and done. That will be Jerry's legacy.

Killed by Jerry Jones,Stephen Jones, Dak Prescott, Jason Garrett, and dozens of player agents who fueled propaganda to keep making in hundreds of millions of dollars off of Jerry's ignorance.
The Cowboys were in their prime from 1991-1993, but were stricken with the pride disease which corrupted Jerry Jones and began eating away like a cancer at the most loved franchise in sports.
Briefly made better with the hiring of Bill Parcells, the disease spread in 2007 and morphed into the "Grandfatherly owner" syndrome which caused Jerry Jones to believe that he could be seen as a genius by hiring his beloved son, Jason Garrett. From there the disease turned into one of envy and backstabbing, as Garrett learned the art of media manipulation while backstabbing Wade Phillips. He began to destroy the progress made by Parcells, and soon the discipline instilled by Parcells was gone; replaced with players who couldn't wait to get in front of a microphone and build their "brand".
As the disease progressed, massive ignorance took over, and Garrett's incompetence completely incapacitated one of the most powerful offensive lines in Cowboys history, and that ignorance derailed the careers of superstars like Demarcus Ware, Terrell Owen's, Tony Romo, and more. The massive ignorance spread to Tony Romo, and coupled with pride it caused him to derail what could have been a Hall of Fame career. Instead, Romo and Garrett's pass happy, undisciplined offense led to multiple interceptions and a lack of red zone success, culmi ating with 8-8 seasons in a broken down NFC East.
Before losing his battle with the disease, Garrett installed Dak Prescott, insuring his legacy of incompetence and media manipulation lived on. The pride that had infected Jerry Jones remained and led to a circus atmosphere and sales pitches each year to keep selling the team to gullible fans,who were repeatedly humiliated every time the Cowboys had a nationally televised game against a real contender.
When Dak's incompetence became clear, and with Jerry's pride reaching the point of being unable to be satisfied, Jerry extended Dak Prescott for four more years on the opening day of the 2024 season,hoping that the excitement for the season and the massive amount spent would distract fans from the fact that Prescott has choked in every big game he ever played.
It was the death blow for the team, ensuring that the perennial mediocrity that Dak and Jason Garrett had brought would continue for four more seasons, and they began circling the drain in a death spin.
Long time fans fondly remember Cowboys greats like Bob Lilly, Roger Staubach, Randy White, Don Meredith, Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson, Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Danny White, Harvey Martin, and many more from the glory days of "America's Team", but now those days are only a memory.
It was great when the Cowboys were for real, but once the pride and incompetence took over, the Cowboys would never return to the greatness fans loved them for.
Jerry's sales pitches no longer work, and the team we once loved has died.

I left out.....repeated lies about Ring of Honor delay for Jimmy Johnson, stadium sun, Barry Switzer, upon hiring spewing "We're gonna do it baby" and commencing to enjoy his short tenure with "We did it baby" (with Jimmy's team), the holdout with Emmitt because Jerry was being stingy, Jerry failing to appear on Maury Povich's "You are the daddy" segments, Joey Galloway trade followed by a torn knee, JWitt return after the draft, Jerry tipsy and more lying during Jimmy's HOF announcement interview, failing to draft Randy Moss when he was on the board, starting the Owner on the sidelines grinning before the game was over, the Curse of Rowdy after Crazy Ray,.......

The difference now is that fan base that Jerry Jones took for granted is fed up, and no longer believes his sales pitches.
That's why America's Team is dying.
And this time I don't expect them to come back.

Shame on those fans who have been buying into Jethro’s hype for the last 30 years. Some of us fed up for decades have tried to warn everyone .

And we also never liked the AT monicker. It delivered exactly what Landry warned of. A target on our backs .

That might be the best part of our lack of success this era is losing these type of bandwagon, casual and fringe type fans.

The football gods never considered Tom Landry a favored son. The Cowboys had to fight tooth and nail for everything they achieved.

The Cowboys lost five NFL championships, including three Super Bowls, by a single score, often in the final seconds. The three Super Bowl defeats in the 70's were by the three closest margins until the Giants beat the Bills by one point in the 1999 season.

The Cowboys never got a break. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick won their first three Super Bowls by 3 points each. Every Cowboys Super Bowl victory was by a double-digit margin. It had to be.

The regular season was merely the qualifying rounds for playoff positioning as far as the Cowboys and their fans were concerned. It wasn't about whether they were going to win. The only mystery was how they were going to win.

When the Cowboys lost a regular season game it was the primary topic for a week in NFL news. The winning team behaved as if they had won the Super Bowl.

For the 13 seasons from 1966 to 1978, the Cowboys offense was #1 ranked in either points or yardage 8 times. They were #1 ranked in both 3 times. They were #1 ranked in one category and #2 ranked in the other an additional 4 times.

Defensively, they were a top ten in both categories every single year of that 13 year period. They were #1 against the run for 4 consecutive seasons, 1966 to 1969. They were #1 against the run 6 times during that 13-year period.

During that 13-year period from 1966 to 1978, the Cowboys missed the playoffs once.

The Cowboys were hated and respected. Football pundits were comprised of mostly ex-NFL players that had become deeply traumatized by the Cowboys. There were guys like Ron Jaworski and Dan Dierdorf who couldn't hide their animosity towards the Cowboys.

I knew the dominance would eventually end but I never considered a time in which they became the complete opposite of what they once were.

When you consider the difference in leadership and management between the Jones's and the Landry/Schramm/Brandt triumvirate, it is not simply day vs. night. It is the brightness of a supernova vs. eternal darkness.
