Last season Ferguson had a strong season number size, but when you look under the hood, his success was more due to teams worried about our top two receivers. I read recently the Cowboy Offense faced the most shell coverage in the entire league last season. Their goal was to take away the explosive passing plays that the Cowboys offense generates. This allowed Ferguson to feast on all the underneath check down passes. As we know he run after catch has disappeared and looks like the old Witten at the position.

One of the biggest issue I saw with Ferguson was his inability to make those up the seam pass connections. Dak tried over and over again trying to connect with Ferguson but they rarely were successful. This was a huge part of Dak's success with former Cowboy Dalton Shultz.

I don't think Ferguson's job is in trouble as he still serves a purpose in this offense, but the team needs that explosive TE to unlock their offense to new levels. Schoon has proven not to be that guy and is most likley playing somewhere else next season. Spann-Ford is also in his contract season, but his calling card is more as an in line blocker. Could Trigg become that X factor at the position? It is a long shot being an undrafted fa, but he has an opportunity. This might be a sneaky draft need in the team's future.

My hope is that Fergs mobility issues last season are just from injuries he endured and was healing. If not we’re in trouble. He looks slower than Witt now. Catches the ball and falls down. Before he sort of reminded me of Kelce the way he could dodge tackles.

My hope is the kid from Baylor blows up for 8 TD’s or something to that nature and still think Spann Ford could be a stud.

Imagine a world in which Guyton can pass block, Blue fulfills his upside, and Trigg is much more than Rico2.

It’s a lot to ask, but not completely crazy if the coaches can get these guys focused, etc.

There’s just a ton of younger guys to be enthusiastic about here. Maybe they don’t win it all, so what? This is fun finally.

The only reason this team shouldn’t make a deep playoff run is either an injury rash, the lack of coaching…which for me translates to not being able to overcome the Jerry factor….or just the wrong bounce of the ball. There’s a distinct difference, which Stephen Jones’ own words tell me he doesn’t at all understand.

It's possible that Trigg is that guy but I wouldn't expect it this year anyway.

If they are true in moving Pickens around (i.e. the slot),, he's going to fill that role quite a bit I'd imagine.

Bite your tongue!!!

Cowboys don't have the draft picks (yet) next year to even think about drafting a TE.
Don't be surprised if they draft one higher then many aspect, especially with the league morphing into that 13 personnel. We saw a ton drafted this year.

Ford is probably the one to watch. He was reportedly playing well last season in camp then got hurt.

WE just don't know which players can that next step and which play themselves off the roster.

If Blue can hit a portion of his upside, he and Williams will make a nice duo. Exactly what you’d want.

How about a world where Jason Ferguson is your TE2? Yeah that works. I don’t feel greedy for allowing myself to dream a little, although I fully believe the people that run the team act the same to a major fault.
The parents can’t be as irresponsible as the children.

Cowboys the only team that needs everyone on the team to be great just to play well. Meanwhile who is the Seahawks tight end?
Listen, not saying spending a 1st rd pick at the position, but adding a legitimate TE to the roster. As you look around the league, teams are starting to implement multiple TE alignments. As I mentioned in another response, just look at the volume just drafted this yr. This suggests that other teams are looking to replicate that Rams attack under McVey.

Ferguson remains an important piece. Teams will not allow him to continue to get easy yardage and will start to adjust, this in turn will open up the outside receivers.

Ferguson was intentionally kept in to help Steele pass block a significantly amount of time last season. Pretty sure this will prevent him from getting up the seem and force him to run 2 yard outs.

Right, but that at least makes things very interesting.

It’s just fun again. I like the players. I like the mix of younger, older, and the middle. I’m excited about the new defense, or simply just trying something new, as opposed to sticking with the same old formula that doesn’t work.

I want to see this team. I do not expect a championship, but it’ll be worth watching.

Well I mean if Trigg turns out to be some miracle type of Antonio Gates type on that.

I understand that, but there were plenty of opportunities that they failed to complete that led the team to stall out drives deep in the opponents zone.
