An inverse look at the draft

Instead of looking at the draft as who would we like to have, or who we need, or who is the best player available, we might get a better perspective looking at the bottom part of the roster and what could be upgraded by a rookie.

My first spot would be Oline. Proctor, Free, McQuistan are all replaceable. A solid draft pick here, especially at the OG spot, could add some real depth.

DLine seems to have only one spot available and that is NG. We have some solid players at the DE spot.

LB is a possibility as Ellis, Polk, Carpenter and Rogers could be replaced by a rookie. Ellis probably gives up his spot this year anyway.

Every safety except Hamlin is replaceable by a rookie. Sensabaugh might prove out.

WR is another that has a few possibilities. Stanback is for sure replaceable and depending one who you draft, so are Hurd and Crayton. I know they placed a 2nd tag on Hurd, but between him and Crayton I see just roster stuffers.

A rookie CB could be on the roster as well. We have 3 solid starters, but depth is an issue. A rookie will probably be the fourth CB this year.

So, to me, it looks like we can add a Safety, OG, LB, WR, CB and NG. That six draft picks that could make the team easy. Maybe a #3 QB, but he would be PS material.

11 picks for 6 spots.

I really doubt they draft a corner high enough that they will be able to jump Ball on the depth chart. He was solid last season when he played and the coaches have always been high on him. He's also got his weight up.

okay, that may be true, but a rookie could defiinately make the team and possibly contribute. Ball isn't what I would call a definate keeper. We need 5 or 6 and counting Ball, there are 4.

Jasper Brinkley replaces Carpenter
Darcel McBath replaces Brown
Dorell Scott replaces Tank
Antonie Caldwell replaces Proctor/Berger
Jason Williams replaces Rodgers
Keenan Lewis replaces Pacman
Brandon Tate replaces TO

I think his point is that there are more spots available on this team than people actually think. I would actually go so far as to say there are closer to 10 spots on this roster up for grabs. That is not to say that 10 rookies will make the team, but there are 10 people on the roster that don't have their job secure.

you forgot TE or blocking fullback, and a punt returner, i am thinking the cowboys will trade at least 3 of their picks, that will leave them with 8 picks in this draft

at same time i think the cowboys will either trade greg ellis or bobby carpenter

trade pat mcquistan probably to miami

if they take a wr high, they may trade patrick crayton

I think trading Bobby Carpenter is wishful thinking more than anything. :)

Scandrick was a fifth rounder, and a player of his quality could easily supplant Ball at No. 4 should the Cowboys go in that direction. It might not happen, but don't overestimate Ball, the guy is marginal at best. And I have a strong feeling the team is going CB before round 5 this year.

If we draft another TE, I might have to choke a *****.

So do you really think that they can hit with a mid round pick again? Thats a lot more optimistic than thinking a 3rd year corner can handle the 4th corner spot.

My 1st thought was...when I seen "INVERSE" draft...was...who we drafted that we can return to the draft pool.....

Quite a long list I would think....

I'm more interested in a contrapositive look at the draft, myself.

You're not suggesting that we get all those guys, are you? We don't have enough 2nd and 3rd round picks to go around.
