We dreamed to draft a difference maker on our team,
With a secondary in shambles, we needed a solid beam.
We thought long about landing LB Sonny Styles,
And we told the world we had capital to go extra miles.
Then, we were concerned for our top six, we would be wiped out,
This would cause all of Cowboy fandom to cry and pout.
We looked at the land of the Ohio Buckeye tree,
To select a stud defensive player, that was our plea.
We needed a proven uninjured playmaker right out of the gate,
As for many decades a championship was not our fate.
We studied all the draft possibilities and stayed up late,
We labored for hours over whom to speculate.
Years ago we selected players Micah and Israel, names from the Holy Land,
But they no longer play for us or are a part of the Cowboys’ band.
A birdie said to go for the prophets with names in Hebrew,
To rebuild an impenetrable defensive force made of solid glue.
The scouts' had a dream of prophets Caleb and Malachi as a great one-two punch,
It was hard study and analysis-based, it was no foolish hunch.
They said we must get Caleb Downs from Ohio State,
In order to be able to rejoice and celebrate.
We went into the draft and had to evaluate and speculate,
But fate handed us The One to come to Big D to shine and scintillate.
We got our guy the defensive know-all prophet Caleb from Ohio State,
We now can open our emotions to greatly exhilarate.
It has been such a long time since we targeted and landed a specific star,
The last time was when we landed our boy in Troy, long ago that far.
Thus we welcome our defensive playmaker in Caleb Downs,
He will lift us and make us forget last year’s secondary clowns.
So let us all go out and celebrate,
Our secondary savior from the Buckeye State.
